The Mois Moliére of Versailles !!!

In my efforts to bring about the best of Versailles, a lot more than the palace, I am looking at my pictures elsewhere in my blog to do this memorable post, I lived in Versailles for almost 10 years and visited afterward, it is a special spot on earth for me and my family. As the saying goes, no time to see all the beauty of my belle France. I will tell you about this event, a wonderful time to be in the City, the Mois Moliére ! Therefore, here is my take on the Mois Moloiére of Versailles !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.

The Mois Molière, 29th Edition, June 2025 in Versailles. A month of theater and music!
For this 29th edition, as every year, every neighborhood in the city will be visited by performances. The program is eclectic. classical shows, contemporary creations, comedies, author texts, concerts, choirs, professional and amateur troupes ,a wide selection is offered to you free of charge or at low prices.
Molière month is also the third edition of the Biennale of Architecture and Landscape of the Île-de-France region. An event funded by the Île-de-France region, which reminds us that since the 17C, the influence of our city has been linked to the celebration of all the arts. And if by chance you happen to pass by the Avignon festival, in July, you can find several shows given in preview in Versailles, in particular at the Théâtre de l’Ancien Carmel and the Théâtre du Petit-Louvre, for which the City is responsible for the program.

The Mois Molière or Molière’s Month is a theater and music festival that takes place every year from June 1st to 30th, in the streets, parks, theaters and historic sites of the city of Versailles. It was led by Francis Perrin, then director of the Théâtre Montansier, who traveled the streets of Versailles on his cart with his troupe. He staged La Jalousie du barbouillé, then, the following year, Le Médecin volant and Les Fâcheux. François de Mazières, deputy mayor of Versailles, responsible for culture, created this festival on June 1st, 1996. He has been responsible for its programming every year since then.

The name Mois Molière Month is a reference to the connection between the great playwright and the city of Versailles ; indeed, it was in the palace, where Louis XIV stayed with his court, that Molière created many of his plays. His work, which combines theater, music, and dance, today constitutes the most popular part of the French theatrical repertoire, and thus meets the stated objectives of the festival. The festival favors Molière in his dimension as a universal genius and highlights the multiplicity of interpretations to which his plays can give rise.

On the occasion of Molière’s 400th birthday,in 2022, the city of Versailles wished to pay tribute to him by commissioning a sculpture from the artist Xavier Veilhan. This statue was placed in the new Jardin du Bosquet ou Moliére on place Lyautey and in front of the station of Versailles Château Rive Gauche (see post), and by the new tourist office, It is a bronze statue, lowered from its base, which will welcome the audience who can sit next to him or on his lap : because Molière was close to the public .The artist was inspired by a sculpture visible in the hall of the Comédie-Française, signed by Jean-Jacques Caffieri, an 18C sculptor. This was done after I left the city so nice to see something new there now.
