This is off the beaten path town in a vastly popular department 78 Yvelines just west of Paris with the capital city of Versailles! In the Île de France region of my belle France, A wonderful road warrior ride into my former region that is was worth the detour me think. This is a new post with a picture found in my cd rom vault that should be in my blog for you and me, This was my old hunting ground…and I have come back in my blog as nostalgia sets in always. Therefore, let me tell you about this is Saint Martin des Champs !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
The village of Saint-Martin-des-Champs is located 4 km from Septeuil, 14 km from Épône, 15 km from Mantes la Jolie, 38 km from Versailles, and 470 km from my current town, The village is served by the D 11 departmental road which connects Thoiry to Septeuil and passes along the northern edge of the territory in an east-west direction, and by the D 130 departmental road which connects Épône to Orgerus and crosses the town in a north-south direction.
Passing in my road warrior mode quickly I saw this marvel that should be back for more eventually, This was the Château de Corbeville a 17C brick and stone construction, The castle was sold in 1920 by Gaston Le Forestier, the last of the Le Coq family line at the castle. Several owners followed, including George Havilland, an American industrialist who manufactured Havilland porcelain in Limoges (Haute Vienne no 87). On the morning of October 17, 1955, the castle was engulfed in flames. Half of the castle was completely destroyed. Currently, the castle belongs to Mr. and Mrs. Philippe Vergely, an industrialist, who redesigned the French-style flowerbed with its pond and fountain.

Other thing to see here is the Church Saint-Martin, built on stone in the 13C, renovated in the 16C and 17C
A bit of history tell us that the hamlet of Elleville was from 1079 a possession of the monastery of Saint-Père de Chartres and came under the authority of the lords of Montfort-l’Amaury. Elleville was an independent parish under the Ancien Régime (monarchy), and today a district of Saint Martin des Champs. In the 18C there was a castle in Corbeville, whose park had eight avenues and a surrounding wall with a corner tower, plus two wells in Corbeville, one of which was on the village square, as well as another well in Saint-Martin,
