We have driven and walked in my former memorable City of Versailles, and would like to have an imprint in my blog on the wonderful family times we had there, There is so much to see , doing my best, and glad found me these older pictures in my cd rom, which now transposing in my blog for you and me, This was my old home, so glad to post, Therefore, here is my take on curiosities of Versailles, part XI !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Lambinet museum (see post) is installed since 1932 in the Hotel Lambinet, built in the 2nd half of the 18C. This mansion was built in 1750 in a parcel of the pond of Clagny dried up in 1737, The museum is located on the boulevard de la Reine, Notre Dame district of Versailles, The museum has 35 rooms, seeks both to preserve the memory of this rich residence and to retrace the history of the city of Versailles. Some are arranged as in the great century, with woodwork, paintings, furniture, sculptures, precious objects, porcelain, etc. There are collections such as stamped furniture, ceramics or art objects, as well as old portraits and works by Versailles artists, sculptures (notably by Jean-Antoine Houdon who lents his name to the museum in 1932), paintings and also copper plates that were used to print the paintings of Jouy. The collections of the Musée Lambinet are divided into three departments: History of France, History of the city and parts related to the French revolution, the reconstruction of an apartment of the 18C, and the Department of Fine Arts.

The cour de marbre(see post) or marble courtyard, done by 1681, and renovated a bit in 1678 to give it a clock crown on top middle of the square, and the windows expanded to seven. You have the statues in the cour de marbre representing  Africa and America on the south side of it, facing the Asia and Europe on the other side. Here too you find on the facades of the cour de Marbre, 84 busts done in 1685, after heroes of antiquities such as Cyrus, Démetrios, jules Cesar, Auguste Marc Anthony, Titus, Alexandre Severe, Constantine, Alexander the Great as well as a Greco-Roman pantheon that mark the work of Le Brun all over the palace to glorified he actions of Louis XIV. The Cour de Marbre is the courtyard of the initial castle built in 1623 by Louis XIII. The white and black tiles that cover it come from the castle of Vaux-le-Vicomte. The main facade is occupied in its center by a central front of three spans marked by two colossal doric pilasters. Three doors on the ground floor give access to the low gallery. The floor is marked by a balcony worn by paired columns one-side-in red marble on pedestal. The windows on the floor overlook the king’s bedroom, they are in the middle of the custom and their archivolt interrupts the frieze of the colossal order, each wardrobe is occupied by a triglyph. The front-body has a attic floor framed by two pilasters with Corinthian marquee. The trumeaux are occupied by trophies of weapons carved in bas-relief done in 1680 and restored in 1893.

I like to take remembrance to the Hôpital Richaud, a venerable institution in Versailles who have seen its better days.  I have been in it and still have some pictures as to when it began to be change unfortunately. The Units have been transferred next door to a modern facility ,and the old hospital is been transformed into a luxury condo, apartment complex, the only building left will be the Chapel. The Chapel was, in the Convent of the Augustinians of Versailles or Couvent de la Reine, dedicated to the education of young ladies founded by Queen Marie Leszczynka, wife of Louis XV. It was done in 1772. L’hôpital Richaud, also known as the  Hôpital Royal de Versailles is completely restored and transformed since 2015 in housing, shops and liberal professions offices. The hospital is located in the Notre-Dame district (my old district) in the center of Versaillesnear the Rive-Droite train station (my old train station)  This hospital Richaud has a long history since at its origin was the house of charity created by king Louis XIII in 1636 The construction work of the Royal Hospital of Versailles spread over a long period of nearly 80 years, and was not finishing until 1859. The site was assigned a hospital function: first modest ‘charity house’ held by the Daughters of St. Vincent de Paul, the institution has seen its patient attendance grow over the years   until the 1960s. The renovated chapel, now Space Richaud, now hosts exhibitions as well as plays.
