After Paris is to rant, shout and yelled about, me think. Therefore, here is my take on curiosities of Paris , part XXIX !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Hôtel des Invalides is one of the most important masterpieces of French classical architecture. Located in the 7éme arrondissement, its construction was ordered by Louis XIV by the royal edict of February 24, 1670, to accommodate the invalids of his armies. Remaining faithful to this mission, it also houses the Saint-Louis des Invalides Cathedral, (see post) several museums and a military necropolis including the tomb of Napoleon I. Seat of high military authorities such as the military governor of Paris, it also brings together a number of organizations dedicated to the memory of veterans and the support of wounded soldiers. The Saint-Louis-des-Invalides Cathedral consisted of two adjoining spaces which initially shared the same sanctuary: The dome of the Invalides, a chapel for the exclusive use of the royal family, then a military pantheon; the soldiers’ church, now Saint-Louis-des-Invalides Cathedral, built for the residents of Les Invalides, declared cathedral of the diocese to the French armies in 1986. These two spaces are separated by a glass roof completed in 1876.

The Musée de l’Armée is located in the Hôtel National des Invalides in the 7éme arrondissement or district of Paris. The Musée de l’Armée is a history museum whose vocation is to present the history of conflicts through the prism of the military history of France. Currently the Army museum is set up as such: The museum extends on the east and west wings around the cour d’Honneur of the Invalides and on a wing to the west of the Cathedral of St. Louis and the Historial de Gaulle, an underground construction under the cour de la Valeur (courtyard).

The Place Vendôme is located in the 1er arrondissement of Paris, and at the north side of the Jardin des Tuileries (see posts), south of the Opéra Garnier (see post) and east of the Madeleine Church (see post). It is one of the most famous places in Paris and considered one of the most luxurious in the world. It was called Place Vendôme from the 17C from the Hôtel de Vendôme, which was located there. it was formerly the Place Louis le Grand and, originally, the Place de Conquêtes (conquests). It was given the name Place des Piques (spades) during the French revolution. It was named Place Internationale in 1871 Place Vendôme is accessed by the Rue de Castiglione (my work street!!) from the rue de Rivoli and the Jardin des Tuileries and by the Rue de la Paix from the Place de la Opéra.
