Another memorable post needed to tell you of my former home department 78 Yvelines I spent my first 9+ years in Versailles, but did went all over including this memorable city that I like to tell you a bit more for you and me, Therefore, here is my take on this is Montigny le Bretonneux !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.
The City of Montigny-le-Bretonneux is located in the department of Yvelines, no 78 in the Île-de-France region of my belle France. The City experienced a very strong demographic expansion during the last quarter of the 20C due to its integration into the new city of Saint -Quentin-en-Yvelines (see post) , The City is 31 km from Paris , 10 km from Versailles , and 452 km from my current home, The City can be reach by autoroute A12, and national roads RN10 and RN12.Very much all travelled by yours truly, It is ,also, served by the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines-Montigny-le- Bretonneux train station, This station is located on the Paris-Montparnasse line ↔ Chartres ↔ Le Mans. It is served by the RER C as well as by Transilien trains N and U. These were taken by my sons on their schooling needs while in the area, never by me.
Some of the things to see here and sadly not on them even if lived 10 km away as my interest here was shopping, bowling, and to see the Montigny Cougars then of the 2nd division baseball team in France ! For reference, the Montigny Cougars baseball team created in 1988 are now in the Division One of baseball in France , You take the D10 or Rue du Général Leclerc in Versailles along the Potager du Roi, and past Parc Balbi get on the D91 or Avenue Clément Ader to connect with the N12 road dir Guyancourt ,the on ave de l’Europe Montigny le Bretonneux continue on this road becomes Avenue du Général Leclerc to Rue Victor Hugo to stadium (if follow signs for Gym Jéan Maréchal on problems), Official Montigny Cougars : https://www.montigny-baseball.com/

The Château de Montigny-le-Bretonneux, or Château de la Couldre, was built in 1863. In 1973, the castle was bought by the local agglo towns. After renovation, the Agglomeration Community of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines installed its premises there. The property includes a 13 hectare park (free to access) and a castle of around thirty rooms. Also, the ferme Manet farm a large area bringing together several buildings (barn, sheepfold …). It is assumed that its origin is linked to that of the Templar commandery in Élancourt. The Abbey of Port-Royal acquired the domain of 65 hectares in the 13C. The exploitation ceased in 1978 and the farm was abandoned for fourteen years; Finally, the town of Montigny-le-Bretonneux acquired it in order to revive this historic place. The Manet farm today hosts a pony club, seminars, celebrations, exhibitions, shows. The Château du Manet dates from the beginning of the 20C; it is built on a 21-hectare property on the edge of Saint-Benoît forest near the Manet farm. is the property of bank Crédit Agricole since the 1980s. The Fort de Saint-Cyr was built after the Paris defense in 1870 in order to ensure the protection of the capital. Its construction began in 1875 and ended in 1879, the year when the first armed troops were installed there. After WWI, the fort was used for the weather station and arms depot. A meteorology school occupies the premises after WWII. Finally, the fort is now used as photographic archives of the Ministry of Culture. In 1976, the Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill and his Taller de Arquitectura, in 1969, created two real estate set, s “Les Arcades du Lac” and “Les Templettes” around an artificial pond From 4 ha dug for the occasion, The Saint-Martin Church is located in the heart of the old town. It was built around the 13C. After having undergone several wars and demolitions, the church was rebuilt in 1610.
A bit of history tell us that originally, the territory corresponding to the current city of Montigny-le-Bretonneux was fully covered the forest of Yvelines which went from the Seine to the west of Paris to the Loire around Orleans. The first mention of a village on the territory of Montigny dates back to 1204 when a cartular, containing the transcription of acts of property of the Catholic church, refers to the village of Montegni or Montani, built around a dedicated church of Saint-Martin, The towns decided in 1965 and engaged from 1970, saw the hatching of the new city of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines triggered the metamorphosis of Montigny-le-Bretonneux which, from village, becomes a city built in the middle of Champs by the Agglomeration Community of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines.
