The Church de la Buena Dicha of Madrid !!

We came most by car and once by plane, and always looking to see familiar sentimental spots and encountering new wonderful monuments such as this church, I am glad found me this picture in my cd rom vault that made me do this post for you and me, Therefore, let me take you my take on the Church de la Buena Dicha of Madrid !! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Church de la Buena Dicha  or of the Good Fortune. On the exterior is notable for its mix of styles: Neo-Gothic, Neo-Mudéjar, and even Neo-Nasrid. The main space of the façade is a porticoed atrium with four columns with Gothic capitals, in the Tudor style, which distribute access to the church through three inter-columns crowned with pointed and lobed horseshoe arches, framed by alfiz moldings (Arab arch frame) with openwork spandrels, the central one being taller than the lateral ones. Above the large central opening is an upper section with Caliphate-era decoration, and in the middle, a stone statue of Nuestra Señora de la Merced or Our Lady of Mercy. The interior has a single nave, divided into two sections, and a square apse covered with an octagonal ribbed vault with a central lantern. At the foot of the nave, where the entrance is located, is a choir loft, its color filtered by stained-glass windows in the Art Nouveau style. In one of the chapels is the Virgen de la Misericordia or Virgin of Mercy, with a sculptural group from the first half of the 17C. The parish is under the administration of the Padres Mercedarios or Mercedarian Fathers, with its current entrance at 25 Calle Silva and its rear façade, featuring interlaced arches and a balcony, facing 12 Calle Libreros.

The story goes that the Hospital de la Buena Dicha or Hospital of Good Fortune aka the Hospital de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción y Buena Dicha or Hospital of Our Lady of the Conception and Good Fortune was founded in 1564 on Calle Silva under the patronage of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción o de la Buena Dicha or Our Lady of the Conception or of Good Fortune, and was subsequently known as the Hermandad de la Buena Dicha or Brotherhood of Good Fortune, founded in 1594. During the events of the uprising of May 2, 1808,(independance or peninsular war), the hospital treated many of the wounded, and several of the heroes of the uprising, such as Manuela Malasaña and Clara del Rey, were buried there. It was built between 1914 and 1914 under the patronage of the Marquises of Hinojares, Don Antonio Pérez de Bustamante and Doña Josefa Salamanca y Wall. The current Church de la Buena Dicha was built in 1917. The church suffered damage during the Spanish Civil War. In 1936, the church was desecrated and its contents destroyed, including the archives. In 2003, the Government of the Community of Madrid carried out restoration work on the church.

There , my parents born in Cuba met and later on I was born there too. 100% guanche (annexed Tenerife to Spain on April 10 ,1496). I left Cuba as many have to Madrid, Spain where I lived for 4 years. Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
