The Ponte da Arràbida of Porto !!

And here I am giving you more of my memorable visit to Porto, I had the chance to see some of Porto but was on the road warrior trails outside into wine country and between Porto and Coimbra. I took this picture from elsewhere in my blog to do this post solely on it as feels deserve it for the memories of always. The Ponte da Arrábida Bridge is an arch bridge spanning the Douro river that connects Porto (via the Arrábida area) to Vila Nova de Gaia (via the Candal interchange), The total length of the deck is 614.6 meters, with a width of 26.5 meters. It features a 270-meter span and a 52-meter rise; the arch itself consists of two parallel hollow ribs, each 8 meters wide, connected by longitudinal and transverse bracing. It originally had two traffic lanes and two side lanes for pedestrians and cyclists. The number of traffic lanes was modified in the 1990s.

Four ornamental bronze sculptures, each five meters tall, can be seen on the elevator towers, an integral part of the structure. Two are located on the Porto side, symbolizing “The Welcoming Spirit of the City of Porto” and “The Spirit of River Work and Hydroelectric Power”; the other two are on the Gaia side, representing “Man’s Mastery of the Waters” and “Man’s Ability to Cross Waterways.”

Since the 1930s, there had been a need to create alternatives to the existing bridges (the D. Maria Pia and D. Luís bridges) to accommodate the growing volume of road traffic. At the time of its construction in 1963, the bridge featured the largest reinforced concrete arch of any bridge in the world. The Arrábida Bridge was officially inaugurated on June 22, 1963.

Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
