The Casa da Mùsica of Porto !!

And here I am giving you more of my memorable visit to Porto, I had the chance to see some of Porto but was on the road warrior trails outside into wine country and between Porto and Coimbra. The Casa da Música is a concert hall ; the city’s second-largest located on Avenida da Boavista. It was designed by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas as part of the Porto European Capital of Culture event in 2001. Construction was only completed in 2005, and the building immediately became a city icon, The venue officially opened on April 15, 2005. ; establishing itself as the first institution in Portugal built exclusively for music, quickly becoming a cultural landmark at both national and European levels. Casa da Música was built next to Praça de Mouzinho de Albuquerque (see post). The site where the current building stands was previously used for the collection and repair of the trams that circulated throughout the city of Porto.

The Casa da Música features two main auditoriums, although other areas of the building can be adapted for concerts or performances (workshops, educational activities, etc.).The Suggia Hall has a base capacity of 1,238 seats, though this number can vary depending on the occasion. Hall 2 is flexible and has no fixed seating capacity; however, it can accommodate an average of 300 seated or 650 standing spectators, depending on factors such as stage size and location, seating layout, and the presence and size of sound and recording equipment. Casa da Música Restaurant ; here, you can enjoy signature cuisine inspired by global flavors and prepared with high-quality ingredients.

The Casa da Música Foundation maintains permanent ensembles that ensure a regular program spanning various periods of music history. Porto Casa da Música Symphony Orchestra: The institution’s principal symphonic group, dedicated to performing the great orchestral repertoire, ranging from the Classical era to 21st-century compositions. Remix Ensemble Casa da Música: A contemporary music ensemble focused on new works. It is internationally recognized for the frequency with which it premieres pieces by contemporary composers. Casa da Música Baroque Orchestra: Specializes in the performance of early music (Baroque and Classical periods). It distinguishes itself through the use of period instruments and historically informed performance practices. Casa da Música Choir: A professional vocal ensemble presenting an eclectic repertoire that ranges from Renaissance polyphony to contemporary vocal styles. Casa da Música Children’s Choir: An ensemble with both artistic and educational aims focused on training young voices, integrating the institution’s teaching and performance activities.
