We were back on my road warrior trails in the Loire valley, and this was a surprise stop from Poitiers going to Loches and back home, As you can read this is a very small village with a nice pretty small church that caught our eyes, I am glad found me the pictures in my cd rom vault and put here for you and me, Therefore, let me tell a bit on this is Paulnay !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.

The village of Paulnay is located in the Indre department, no 36, in the Centre-Val de Loire region of my belle France. It is a rural village of only 348 inhabitants as of 2023, It is located 45 km from Châteauroux, 80 km from Issoudun , 80 km from La Châtre, 78 km from Poitiers, 308 km from Versailles, and 428 km from my current home , The village area is served by D925 and D975 roads principally, I came on my road warrior trails to Poitiers and on way back stop here before continuing to Loches and beyond, mostly on the D3 road and then D725 road continue on the D925 road to the church of Paulnay,

This was the interesting spot that made us stop, the Church Saint-Étienne from the 12C, a jewel of Roman art, It is remarkable for its magnificent façade adorned with sculptures of plant motifs, mermaids, a rare feature in Berry, and birds intertwine around the entrance portal as well as for its frescoes, which are striking for their intense color such as the Christ in Majesty, a calendar of the months, a representation of Hell. The church consists of a nave without side aisles, a narrower bay forming the chancel, and a sanctuary with a semicircular plan. Externally, the sanctuary has a rectangular plan. The nave vault and one of the jambs retain traces of paintings from the late 12C.

Until the French revolution, the parish church of Paulnay was dependent on the Abbey of Saint-Cyran, founded in the 7C. Although its first mention dates only to the 12C, the church may nevertheless have much older origins, as its dedication to Saint Stephen (St Etienne) has sometimes suggested, but especially the discovery, in the late 1980s, of a Merovingian necropolis located within a Gallo-Roman building. In addition to interior alterations carried out between 1835 and 1873, the church underwent repairs in the 1830s, in 1877, and again after 1946.

A bit of history tell us that Paulnay appears to have been inhabited since antiquity. Excavations have revealed the presence of a Gallo-Roman site “de la Pétonnière”, with baths and hypocaust, as well as a Merovingian cemetery.

Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
