We have driven in the area and would like to have an imprint in my blog on the wonderful towns of my belle France, There is so much to see , doing my best, and glad found me these pictures in my cd rom vault ,which now transposing in my blog for you and me, The City of Rochefort ,aka Rochefort-sur-Mer is located in the Charente-Maritime, dept, no 17 in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of my belle France Therefore, here is my take on the Musée Archéologique de la Vieille Paroisse of Rochefort !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I. 

The Musée Archéologique de la Vieille Paroisse or Old Parish Archeological Museum is a historical and archaeological museum located in Rochefort in a former Romanesque priory from the 12C, the first parish church before the establishment of the royal arsenal and until the time of the reconstruction in 1860 of the new Notre-Dame Church. It is the oldest building in the town. It was the seat of one of the four parishes serving the territory of the Rochefort seigneury, of which the lord of Rochefort was neither founder nor patron. The old Notre-Dame-de-Rochefort church was deconsecrated in 1860 when a new Notre-Dame church was built on a new site in the suburb. It was used as the Labor Exchange from 1900 to 1976.

The Old Parish Archaeological Museum, is a museum run by a very old local association, the Rochefort Geographical Society, and as its name suggests, specializes in exhibiting archaeological artifacts and objects from the city and its surrounding region. The Society organizes permanent exhibitions, The archaeological museum houses the headquarters of the “Rochefort Geographical Society,” a learned society founded in 1879, which conducts historical research and archaeological excavations, the results of which are published in the journal Roccafortis. In 1884, it absorbed the “Society of Agriculture, Sciences and Belles Lettres of Rochefort,” the name given in 1834 to the “Society of Sciences and Arts of Rochefort,” later renamed the “Society of Literature, Sciences and Arts of Rochefort,” founded in 1806. It was one of the oldest of the eighty-three provincial learned societies. Since 1960, it has published the bulletin Roccafortis, a title taken from the original journal of the Rochefort Geographical Society, featuring the seal of Jehan de Rochefort from 1300 as its emblem.

Since the building’s restoration in 1979, the Old Parish Archaeological Museum has housed rich archaeological collections spanning from prehistory to the end of the modern period. The collection comprises Neolithic stone tools and pottery fragments, ceramics represented by pottery and shards, Gallo-Roman furniture, pottery, mosaics, and sculptures from the Middle Ages, one of its treasures being a sculpted keystone from the old Romanesque church depicting the Old Man of the Apocalypse holding the hurdy-gurdy and traditional flask. Finally, typical Saintonge pottery dating from the Early Modern period, spanning the 16th to the 18C, is also stored there.

There , my parents born in Cuba met and later on I was born there too. 100% guanche (annexed Tenerife to Spain on April 10 ,1496). I left Cuba as many have to Madrid, Spain where I lived for 4 years. Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting. Moving average a home every 5.5 years hopefully this will be my last. Cheers All rights reserved.
