This is Entre Deux Mers and its wines !!!

Once again taken you to a wonderful region of many trips over the years off and on France with wonderful memorable Gironde dept 33 of the Nouvelle Aquitaine region of my belle France, I have posts on its many cities in my blog ,but this one will have just one picture that prompted me to do this post for you and me, Therefore, here is my take on the this is Entre Deux Mers andn its wines !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Entre-deux-Mers area is located east of Bordeaux enclosed between the right bank of the Garonne river, and the left bank of the Dordogne river, it stretches from the Bec d’Ambès to the borders of the Dordogne 24, and Lot-et-Garonne 47 departments . Historically, it includes the territory of the La Bastide district, which was annexed to Bordeaux in the 19C.This region, with its Gascon tradition, is part of the Gironde region of Guyenne. Occitan, in its northern Gascon variant, is the traditional language of the Entre-deux-Mers region. As a disclaimer I hardly ever drink white wine for many years already, my world goes from red to rosé and sparkling/Champagne, However, still once in a while do take a bottle like in this case that prompted me to do this post,

It is partially or entirely located within the territory of nine of the thirty-three cantons of the Gironde department distributed among the three arrondissements or districts of Bordeaux. Its approximately 208 towns/villages grouped within sixteen inter-municipal cooperation structures. It has many bridges over the Garonne and Dordogne rivers. The Bordeaux ring road A630 crosses the metropolitan part of the Entre-deux-Mers region between the François Mitterrand and Aquitaine bridges, The roads here are with somewhat trafic jams unless you come in off rush hours as us, On the right bank of the Garonne river, the D10 road comes to us from Dordogne via Saint-Antoine-sur-l’Isle from where it heads towards the Gironde estuary to the west, crosses the river between Cubzac-les-Ponts and Saint-Vincent-de-Paul by the Eiffel bridge, where it merges with the N10 highway, from which it separates to go up along the left bank of the Dordogne towards the Bec d’Ambès. The D113 road winds its way between the Quai de Brazza and the ring road through the streets of the Bordeaux metropolitan area’s towns of Cenon, Floirac, and Bouliac, before plunging resolutely into the heart of the Entre-deux-Mers region , The D19 road leads to Malagar, and finally Saint-Macaire, where it joins the N113 national road to cross the Garonne via the bridge that leads to Langon. At Saint-Macaire, the D113, from Bordeaux to Marseille takes over from D10 to connect, more or less following the banks of the Garonne, before continuing its journey in Lot-et-Garonne towards Marmande under the name of D813 road, We have come down on the A10 and N10 roads to this area,

The wonderful time is going to the vineyards and meeting the winegrowers/makers to bring home over the years ! A wonderful area with good price/quality wines of Bordeaux. The particularity of the AOC Entre Deux Mers , the wines must be blended wines, with therefore, two white grape varieties used as minimum,Their distribution depends on the will of each winegrower … from these different combinations will arise diversity. The appellation area covers a total of 133 towns/villages, excluding those belonging to neighboring appellations.

Production of Entre-Deux-Mers white wine is authorized using Muscadelle, Sémillon, Sauvignon, and Sauvignon Gris as the principal grape varieties (comprising at least 70% of the plantings), and Colombard and Ugni Blanc as accessory varieties. Sauvignon is the most widely used, often blended with Sémillon. The Sauvignon, makes it possible to obtain more lively wines, with powerful aromas and brings to the nose very fresh scents of citrus fruits, grapefruit, passion fruit, underlined by those of wild plants such as acadia flower, broom, boxwood etc, Muscadelle , floral and fruity, it contributes to the complexity of the wines of the Appellation. Sémillon  offers notes of spring flowers, white and yellow fruits, pears, white peaches, as well as suppleness and roundness in the mouth. Young, it is subtly discreet to better reveal itself and express all its aromas as it ages. Sauvignon Gris  can also be used in the blend, giving aromas of exotic fruits and fatness to the wine. For red wine production, the authorized principal grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Côt aka Malbec, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, with Carménère as an accessory variety. In practice, Entre-Deux-Mers red is produced from a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc.Producing Entre-Deux-Mers requires blending at least two of the principal grape varieties; no single variety may exceed 80% of the blend. Accessory varieties must not exceed 30% of the blend.

The territory of its towns/villages is located in the geographical area of production of Entre-deux-Mers, a controlled designation of origin for dry white wines from the vineyard of the same name, Premières-Côtes-de-Bordeaux (dry white wines) and Cadillac-Côtes-de-Bordeaux (red wines), Cadillac (sweet white wines), Bordeaux-Haut-Benauge and Entre-deux-Mers-Haut-Benauge (dry white wines), geographical designations, Sainte-Foy-Côtes-de-Bordeaux (dry, medium, sweet and red white wines), Graves-de-Vayres (dry or red white wines), Côtes-de-Bordeaux-Saint-Macaire (dry, medium and sweet white wines), The geographical designation includes Loupiac (sweet white wines) and Sainte-Croix-du-Mont (sweet and semi-sweet white wines). The entire region also produces reds, clairets, rosés, and dry, sweet, or sparkling white wines under the Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur appellations.
