We were back to my dear Spain again !! love it !! We came by car of course and took time to see new places with my sons and our dog Rex ! I took my road warrior mode on and came in off the A6 highway to see this wonderful town passed many times and finally in Arévalo, I like to continue the saga of our new road warrior experiences even if now with less in our family, This post is from a stranded picture in another post that needed to have a post of its own, me think. The town of Arévalo is located in the province of Avila, and in the autonomous community of Castilla y Léon, in the kingdom of Spain, Therefore, let me tell you about the Centro de Actividades del Mudéjar-CAM of Arévalo !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
The Centro de Actividades del Mudéjar – CAM or Mudéjar Activities Center – CAM is located at Plaza de la Villa, 17, the latest cultural center to open in the city. The building houses the remains of the home of the writer, poet, and journalist Nicasio Hernández Luquero, as well as a Mudéjar interpretation center where visitors can delve into the history of this social group and learn the fundamental characteristics of the art they created. This museum is located in the beautiful arcaded Plaza de la Villa,(see post). The building chosen for this purpose is a 19C house, the poet kept a very important library with some 5,000 volumes, including limited and inscribed editions.

The visit begins at the very entrance of the house, where Nicasio Hernández is presented as the scholar he was, and some fragments of burned pages from what was once his great library are displayed. In the cellar, one can admire some beautiful brick arches and the remaining beams. An audiovisual presentation is prepared for future projection. The surrounding area encompasses the history of Spain, architecture, sculpture, society, the Mudéjar style of the region, and more. It is a center for the knowledge and discovery of this part of Spanish history. Afterwards, you go through the courtyard to access the back where the museum itself is located. There, you are offered a tour of Mudéjar art. Although admission to the museum is free, it must be done as part of a guided tour with tours departing every half hour.
Unfortunately, a fire destroyed the building and everything in it, including the library, in December 2001. After the fire, the house remained abandoned for several years, unrestored and unrehabilitated, merely shored up, until this project came to light. The building has been significantly altered since the fire was devastating; only the exterior façade, the wall separating the courtyard, the wells, the cellar, and a few beams that “survived” remain standing and with their original appearance.
Who was Nicasio Hernández Luquero ? Well, he was a Spanish writer, poet, and translator. Arriving in Madrid in 1900, he became a regular at literary, journalistic, and political gatherings, gaining recognition for his articles and chronicles, which were praised by notable literary figures such as Ramón Gómez de la Serna (Spanish Biographer, Playwright, Writer, Literary Figure, Orator, and Poet) With him, he often visited secondhand bookstores and the Botanical Garden book fair.. He was known for his work as a translator, particularly his versions of Marinetti and Gabriele d’Annunzio, and for his poems, scattered throughout the press and various publications, which were more intimate and bucolic in tone. His first readings were military works, Pirala’s History of the Civil War, then Don Quixote, the classics in general, and Galdós.Among his journalistic chronicles, we can only mention: Los Segadores, Alma Castellana, Las Hogueras, Oración por la llanura…Also , Abajo la guerra, Un Bohemio Rural, El Poeta Campesino, and Los Yermos de la guerra…He wrote two novels : El ensueño Roto and Una bala perdida, He was a regular at the “La Sagrada Cripta” or Sacred Crypt book fair at Café Pombo and at the many monthly banquets offered to writers and artists. He was born in nearby Montejo de Arévalo and died in 1975 at Arévalo,
