Curiosities of Albarracin, part II !!!

I did stop briefly and saw the nice historical architecture beauty of Albarracin, in the province of Teruel, autonomous community of Aragon and in my dear kingdom of Spain, Again, found me picture in my cd rom vault ,that combine with an older one will do this post for you and me , This was a nice monument on the road that made us stop for a look and a nice memory of the area ,Therefore, here is my take on curiosities of Albarracin, part II !!!  Hope you enjoy it as I.

The town of Albarracín is 37 km from Teruel, 114 km from Cuenca, 279 km from Madrid, and 89 km from Las Majadas our home for several years (see posts), coming down from France on the A23 autovia Mudéjar we came in by Cella exit/salida 131 on the A2515 road taking right the TE V9011 road then right on the A1512 continue on same road very hilly curvy mountaneous area passing the Roman Aqueduct continue ,passing Castillo de Santa Croche (castle), continue see on your right the murallas or walls of Albarracin continuing thru City center and continue same road on your left the Guadalaviar river bear a sharp left into the A1703 road a few km turn right into the A1704 all curvy hilly mountaineous roads, passing the cascade of Calomarde continue same road passing City center Calomarde (see post) ; bear left to continue on same A1704 road passing the village of Frias de Albarracin continue same road until right hand side see the monument, plenty of parking,The A road means of Aragon, a bit further you enter Castilla La Mancha on the CM2119 and CM2106 to continue our trip to our home base at Las Majadas.

We pass by a monument in metal call the Nacimiento del Rio Tajo in the Sierra de Albarracin at the birth of the Tagus river. The monument to the Nacimiento del rio Tajo or birth of the Tagus river aims to pay tribute to the three provinces where it was formed. Teruel, with its symbolic “torico,” (old small bull) while the star and the chalice represents Cuenca, and the knight represent Guadalajara. The sculptural group depicts Father Tagus, an allegory of the river shaped by a great titan.

This monument commemorates the beginning of the longest Iberian river, embodied in a large sculptural figure representing a titan. It’s no wonder that this entire area is spectacular and has become the Alto Tajo Natural Park. However, it is merely the beginning of the Tagus’s (tajo) intense journey through both Spain and Portugal. After the Alcarria and Cuenca regions, the river still has many wonders to irrigate in several autonomous communities, such as Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha, where it flows for a large part of its route, and also in Extremadura.
