This is Neufmoutiers en Brie !!!

This is one of those place that was near me and visited for its surroundings on my road warrior trails near Disneyland Paris, and my family enjoyed each visit. I will do this post as again found me pictures in my cd rom vault that should be in my blog for you and me. Therefore ,here is my take on this is Neufmoutiers en Brie !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I

The village of Neufmoutiers-en-Brie is located in the Seine-et-Marne department no, 77 in the Île-de-France region of my belle France. It has 1277 inhabitants (2022), and is 7 km from Tournan-en-Brie, 16 km from Disneyland Paris, 5 km from Villeneuve-le-Comte,69 km from Versailles, 25 km from Meaux, and 512 km from my current home. The village is served by: the D 96 road, which crosses the village and joins the N4 highway to the south and Villeneuve-le-Comte to the north;four municipal roads leading to the N36 to Les Chapelles-Bourbon, Tournan-en-Brie, and Favières. We came here from Meaux along the D360 road which becomes the A140 highway to connect with the A4 autoroute de l’Est continue dir Paris to exit/sortie 15 on the D1036 road bearing right onto the D406 road on next roundabout bear left onto the D96 road continue same road pass City center Villeneuve le Comte continue on D96 road to village Rue du Général de Gaulle same road past village center to quick left on Rue de l’Obelisque and a quick right onto Rue de l’église and the church.

The Church Saint-Leu-et-Saint-Gilles from the 13C, rebuilt in 1749 and restored in 1879. To the right and left of the entrance are two ancient pillars. The church was built in 1749 and restored in 1879. This date of 1749, inscribed on the church, is surprising because the nave is reinforced by rectangular buttresses from the 13C. Furthermore, the date of 1300 can be read on the tomb of a priest. His stone is lying in the left aisle. It indicates that in 1300 there was a church in Neufmoutiers. It also shows a former butler from the time of Louis XIII. The nave is barrel-vaulted up to the apse, which ends in a dome.

The Church Saint-Leu-et-Saint-Gilles consist of a four-bay nave flanked by a bell tower and a side aisle that extends to the chevet. This is also flanked by a side aisle. The chevet is polygonal. The main façade has a gabled wall pierced by a door and an oculus in its upper part. The bell tower adjoins this façade, and is square in plan, supported by projecting buttresses and topped by a pavilion roof topped by a pinnacle. The nave has two levels: one level pierced by pointed arched bays for the north aisle and one level of tall windows with circular bays. The south aisle has a polygonal eastern end. The chevet is pierced by pointed arched bays, the one on the axis of which is decorated with tracery. It is supported by buttresses. The church has a hipped roof with canted sides.

Other things to see here are the Château du Chemin, 18C. Around 1950, Countess Stern Singer donated the Château du Chemin to a veterans’ foundation to build a sanatorium. The Medical and Educational Center for Adolescents (Les Lycéens) was built next to the château in 1955, offering medical care and educational support on the same site.

A bit of history I like tell us that as its name suggests, Neufmoutiers may have been occupied for a time in the Middle Ages by monks, who were responsible for deforestation and draining the marshes, making the land suitable for cultivation. Much of what is now Seine-et-Marne was made fertile by itinerant monks. The lords of Neufmoutiers first lived at the Château de Bellevue ;which became a farm in 1751. On 15.10.1729 died there ,the owner Jules de Gravel, Marquis de Marly ,extraordinary ambassador to Switzerland in 1684, to Germany from 1687 to 1689, to Poland from 1689 to 1691, and whose tomb is also in the church , The Château du Chemin, built in the 18C, belonged in 1870 to Alexandre Singer, son of David Singer, and was occupied by German soldiers, who organized a large banquet there in honor of the creation of the German Empire, emptied its cellars, During WWII, a prison camp was created in the woods bordering the place called Le Bois Breton. About fifty former Spanish Republican combatants lived there with the task to cut wood, and some German soldiers.
