Curiosities of Lisle sur Tarn !!!

Let me bring you back to update this older post with new pictures from my cd rom vault and some older paper pictures to share with you and me, A wonderful memory to the nostalgic Lisle sur Tarn, in the Tarn deparment no, 81 of the Occitanie region of my belle France. Like I have said, the region is full of amazing small towns all with a rich history on its own,and worth your layover I am sure. The town sits between my other nostalgic cities of Toulouse and Gaillac and in the middle of a wine region, Therefore, this is my take on curiosities of Lisle sur Tarn !!! Hope you enjoy this post as I.

The place aux couverts aka Place Paul Saissac, around which the grid pattern of streets was laid out, is the heart of the bastide. It is the largest covered market square in Southwest France (4,425 m²). It was and remains the economic and social center of the town: City/Town Hall, Tourist Office, community hall, museums, banks, shops, Sunday market, and various events. The Griffoul in the center of the square is a fountain, gifted to the town by Jeanne de Toulouse , the daughter of Raymond VII (count of Toulouse) ,and her husband, Alphonse de Poitiers, (brother of king Louis IX). The Griffoul or frieze adorning the 8-meter-circumference lead alloy basin is occasionally interrupted by the Occitan cross and the fleur-de-lis, which symbolized the union of the County of Toulouse and the French crown. This basin, dating from the 13C, is surmounted by a fountain with cherubs, made of bronze, cast in 1611.

The houses, made of cob or red brick, with corbelled timber framing typical of medieval architecture. Some retain on their facades the coat of arms of the County of Toulouse and are sometimes linked by very well-preserved pountets orbridge connectors (see pic) six pountets still exist in Lisle-sur-Tarn.
