The Musée Bourdelle of Paris !!!

I walked by here a lot as was one of my working areas in  Paris, The area having wonderful historical monuments and restaurants in my eternal Paris,  It is with great joy that I found these pictures in my cd rom vault to share in my blog for you and me. Therefore, let me tell you on the musée Bourdelle of Paris !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.

The Musée Bourdelle let you stroll in the workshops and gardens of the late 19C sculptor Antoine Bourdelle. Bourdelle studied under the more famous sculptor, Rodin, for years. The sculptures are impressive and the garden is scattered with them which makes it look, in my opinion, like an old backyard from Antiquity.

The Bourdelle Museum is one of the fourteen museums of the City of Paris. Dedicated to the work of Antoine Bourdelle, it is located in the 15éme arrondissement, on the premises where the sculptor lived and worked from 1885 until his death in 1929. Its current address is 18, rue Antoine-Bourdelle; during Bourdelle’s lifetime, it was 16, impasse du Maine. The creation of the museum, desired by Bourdelle at the end of his life, is due to the patronage of Gabriel Cognacq, and the perseverance of Bourdelle’s close friends: his second wife, Cléopatre Bourdelle-Sévastos, and his daughter Rhodia Dufet-Bourdelle. The museum was extensively renovated in the early 2020s. This work was completed, and the museum reopened in March 2023.

In 1951, a brick gallery from Montauban,(see post), Bourdelle’s hometown, was added to the street garden. Many bronzes are exhibited there: The Fruit, Heracles the Archer (1923), the bas-reliefs from the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Adam, and Penelope. The large hall, known as the plaster hall, was built in 1961 on the site of Jules Dalou’s former studio, then next to Bourdelle’s. It is intended to present the monumental plaster works to the public. The main works exhibited are: Monument to General Alvéar, France, Heracles the Archer, The Fruit, Sappho, and The Dying Centaur. A small side room is reserved for temporary exhibitions. These rooms host exhibitions of contemporary artists or themes exploring part of Bourdelle’s work.

Antoine Bourdelle lived in an apartment adjoining his studio from 1895 to 1918. From the former apartment, a room open to the public has remained intact. There is a bed and a pastel cabinet. In the center of the room, Antoine Bourdelle placed a cast of David from Reims Cathedral. Bourdelle’s studios are located in the center of the current museum; these studios are where Antoine Bourdelle settled in 1885. He worked there until his death in 1929. The parquet floors, woodwork, and furniture are original. The plaster Dying Centaur is still in place. The studio displays sculptures in marble, wood, and bronze.
