Well there you go written couple posts on the town which was our favorite when in Versailles, and my boys went to school here too, (see post), and need to tell you more on the church of Le Chesnay, and now Le Chesnay-Rocquencourt! The town is of course, located in the Yvelines department 78 in the Île de France region of my belle France. The town is located 18 km from Paris, and just across the street from Versailles. The neighboring towns are: La Celle-Saint-Cloud to the north, Vaucresson to the northeast, Versailles from the east to the southwest, and old Rocquencourt to the west. Therefore, let me tell you on curiosities of Le Chesnay-Rocquencourt !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
The Church Saint Antoine de Padoue was consecrated on November 18, 1900 after three years of work , located at Place Saint-Antoine, and always visible by me as located on the edge of Versailles, not far from the Place de la Loi in Versailles city limit. Which we past going west or to my boys’ school “The baptism of Saint Anthony”, and the statue of Saint Anthony are to see. This was a new neo-gothic style church. It was not finally completed until 1910. Its 51-meter spire is in line with the boulevard du Roi, Versailles. At the apse of the church is a Breton-style Calvary at the foot of which the founding parish priest is buried. The tympanum of the portal depicts: Saint Anthony blessing, Saint Michael driving out the demon of pride, and Saint James of Compostela driving out the demon of avarice. The church spire is 51 meters high. In 1967, following the Second Vatican Council, the high altar and communion table were removed from the church choir. The Poitou stone pulpit was also removed so that the priest could face the faithful. The monumental four-ton statue of Saint Anthony of Padua, placed above the high altar, was dismantled and moved to the left side nave of the church. One of the assets of this church is its superb historiated stained glass window, which recounts, from the first bay to the choir, the main or edifying events in the life of Saint Anthony of Padua. Other stained-glass windows recall episodes from the New Testament. The historiated window is located on the first level. The second level of the elevation houses stained-glass windows with geometric figures. Recently restored, the Church Saint Anthony of Padua is a beautiful neo-Gothic church that is well worth a visit.

A bit of history I like tell us that the Canon Charles Boissis was commissioned in 1894 to build a new church, which he did without delay, as the foundation stone was laid in 1897. The blessing of the Church Saint Antony of Padua took place in 1900, three years before the bell tower was completed. It must be said that Pope Leo XIII wished to promote in France the veneration of the saint who had traveled the country in the 1220s. In 1896, the land for the church was acquired. On April 19, 1897, the foundation stone was laid. On November 18, 1900, the church was inaugurated and blessed. In 1903, the bell tower was completed. In 1906, the last stained-glass window was installed. In 1910, the portal tympanum was completed and the bells were blessed. The church was officially completed. In 1913, the installation of the two organs was completed.
The rue de Versailles starts at the Place de la Loi in Versailles where the national monument to the Gendarmerie or police is shown , passing by the City of Le Chesnay market , the Carrefour City No 26 and Petit Casino convenience supermarkets , bear right on the round point de la Redingole by no 114 the popular Pizza Hut and the backside of the mall Parly II which we love ! Continue bearing right by the round point de l’Europe, right after the No 177 Centre Hospitalier de Versailles – Hôpital André Mignot , Continue on your right you see the Château du Haut Bel-Air, located at 156 rue de Versailles, was originally a fountain maker’s house, part of the hydraulics of the park of the Château de Versailles in connection with the Marly machine, which was sold as national property during the French revolution. Acquired in 1891 by Count Edmond de Martimprey, it remained in his family until 1947, when it was acquired by the city of Versailles to make it a holiday camp until its purchase by the city of Le Chesnay in 1981. The park is open to the public, but important my twins son private school was here !!! (see post). The street continues just before arriving next to the autoroute A13 by the roundpoint of entering the City of La Celle Saint Cloud ,Here you will find a forest green area on the old Domaine du Petit Beauregard to your left side, The whole of the street is now on the City of Le Chesnay-Roquencourt ( see posts),

Other things to see here are the oldest church, Saint-Germain, dates from 1805. It is located in the north of the town, on the edge of Rocquencourt, and is flanked by the town’s cemetery. In the latter, the common war memorial for the towns of Chesnay and Rocquencourt has been installed. The modern-style Notre-Dame-de-la-Résurrection Church, opened in 1970, is located almost in the heart of Parly 2 shopping center (see posts). The Château du Grand-Chesnay. Under the Ancien Régime, it housed for a time in the 17C the Petites écoles de Port-Royal, which were closed by royal order. Among the students was the young Jean Racine.
