Curiosities of Versailles, part XIII !!!

We have driven and walked in my former memorable City of Versailles, and would like to have an imprint in my blog on the wonderful family times we had there, There is so much to see , doing my best, and glad found me these older pictures in my cd rom vault, which now transposing in my blog for you and me, This was my old home, so glad to post, Therefore, here is my take on curiosities of Versailles, part XIII !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The monumental rotunda (see pic) that marks the entrance to the Croÿ barracks host workshops, activities, shows, and concerts. Located along Avenue de Sceaux,it was the site of the Versailles-Satory Military Circle and the 3rd Command Support Base. However, the rotunda , which has long been closed to the public (except for Heritage Days), is now the scene of a bustling event, that of Molière Month, when various theater troupes will take over the premises. The Cercle Mess des Officiers de Versailles Quartier De Croy at 30 Avenue De Sceaux, A former barracks dating back to the early 19C located in the center of Versailles. It features a vast paved courtyard that provides access to various buildings. The entrance to the district is still visible at number 5 Rue Royale. (see pic) On this site was the Hôtel des Gardes du Corps, built between 1750 and 1754, these barracks were intended for the King’s bodyguards. The construction was paid for by the soldiers themselves to avoid them having to lodge at the hotel or with local residents during their service at Court. The key is the rehabilitation of a magnificent stone rotunda, but also the creation of a meeting and performance hall which will host its first events during the Mois Molière. A monumental stone rotunda, a vestige of an 18C riding school, constitutes the centerpiece of the space. On the section along Avenue de Sceaux, La Rotonde will now host workshops, activities, shows and concerts.

The Gare de Versailles-Chantiers (see post) is on the line of Paris-Montparnasse to Brest and of the line of the Grande Ceinture or grand belt of Paris, located in the district of Chantiers, in Versailles.  It is in the center of a seven-branched railway star layout connecting it: towards Paris: At the Gare Montparnasse , Gare d’ Austerlitz , at the station of Gare Saint-Lazare , at Versailles-Rive-Droite.

The Gare de Versailles-Rive-Droite (see post) is a train station terminus of the Paris-Saint-Lazare to Versailles-Rive-Droite, located in the Notre-Dame district of Versailles at 40 rue du Maréchal Foch. (this was my most used station while living in Versailles). Opened in August 2, 1839. From Paris Saint Lazare ,it will take you about 28 minutes to reach it  , depending on problems can be as much as 36 minutes sometimes. It owes its name of Rive Droite (right bank) to the fact that it is located on an established line, departing from Paris, on the right bank of the Seine river.

The Church Saint Elizabeth of Hungary (see post) very much linked to Madame Elizabeth,(see post), guillotine sister of Louis XVI !The  Church Sainte-Elisabeth de Hongrie is located at 25 rue des Chantiers , It is of a basilical shape without transept visible from the exterior. The exterior main façade is advanced from an ancient porch surmounted by a triangular pediment. The construction of a worship church was started in homage to Princess Elizabeth ! A bit on the religious significance of this  Church Sainte Elizabeth of Hungary  and Madame Elizabeth. Madame Elisabeth died in the smell of holiness. According to Madame de Genlis, a rose smell spread over the Place de la Concorde after her exécution. Her cause for beatification was officially introduced on December 23, 1953 by Cardinal Maurice Feltin, Archbishop of Paris, after being declared, the same year, Servant of God by Pope Pius XII, acknowledging by decree the heroic of her virtues, of the only made her martyrdom. Cardinal André Vingt-Trois, Archbishop of Paris, reactivates the cause of her beatification in 2016, Abbé Xavier Snoëk, parish priest of the Church Sainte-Élisabeth-de-Hungary, being appointed postulator of the cause, and recognises in May 2017 the association of the faithful promoters of her cause. On July 11, 2017, Pope Francis opened a third path to beatification, alongside heroic virtues and martyrdom: the offering of one’s life. However, the offering of one’s life is not sufficient for beatification. Recognition of a miracle that occurred after one’s death and obtained through one’s intercession remains necessary. On November 15, 2017, Cardinal Vingt-Trois, after the opinion of the Conference of the Bishops of France and the Nihil obstat of the Congregation for the Cause of the Saints, in Rome has opened a new trial for the canonization of Élisabeth Philippe Marie Hélène de France dit Madame Elisabeth, sister of king Louis XVI. Still pending,
