Curiosities of Surabaya !!!

I found me an older post that needed to update with new text and link using the older pictures, These are part of my history as it is my blog, Let me show you the wonderful Surabaya, Java, Indonesia, Therefore, here is my take on curiosities of Surabaya !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I,

I went on my usual often repeated long journey from Nantes Atlantique airport to Roissy CDG T2F on Air France, and then took the CDGVal train to terminal 1 to catch the fly with Singapore Airlines; reaching Chiangi airport in Singapore  after about 13 hrs!! Then, flew to the Jakarta airport and continue on SQ to Surabaya in Indonesia.

The Surabaya Juanda International Airport serves Surabaya, East Java and surrounding areas. It is my second most used airport in Indonesia. It is located in the kabupaten ,department of Sidoarjo, 20 km south of Surabaya, Smallish but nice way around fun to be by there first. The exotic nice Surabaya–Mojokerto Toll Road or Sumo Toll Road, is a part of Trans-Java toll road with a length of 36 km. Very nice quick clean road to take each day of my stay and each visit. Surabaya is the first port harbor of the country, and an important commercial center. It was founded in 1293 and Surabaya comes from suro, « shark » and buaya, « crocodile ». The leyend has it that these two animals fought for control of the region and are represented in the coat of arms emblem of the city shown at the monument Tugu Pahlawan. Its airport is call  Juanda, second in the country behind Jakarta.  Smallish but nice way around fun to be by there first. The official Juanda airport of Surabaya: https://www.juanda-airport.com/en

I had a driver to pick me up which improves tremendously the logistics, the traffic on both areas is bad. Upon arriving in Surabaya Juanda airport I was taken to the office and then in the evening to my usual hotel the Verwood Hotel & Serviced Residence was my stayed in Surabaya when name Somerset Hotel and Services (see post), From my rooms was always to see the wonderful landscape of the front entrance and far away into the City, with a bit of the usual pollution air, memories forever. The official Verwood Hotel : http://www.verwoodhotel.com/

In Surabaya I had more time to enjoy some shopping and eating at famliar faces. I enjoyed the Ciputra World Mall, (see post) ,a wonderful place full of shops, restos and great promenade on the top floor with asiatic decoration along a lineup of restaurants. The official Ciputra World Mall of Surabaya : https://ciputraworldsurabaya.com/mall/

This time , we walked from the hotel Somerset along Jalan Raya Kupang Indah street now Verwood hotel,and had the change to eat at a fish/seafood place where you can pick the live fish from the tank and they cook it for you! The place is very popular from the crowd and is call Daun Lada ! I do not see the resto near there now but they have branches in malls etc.

In all the trip back was easy with a driver, and the connection at Chiangi Singapore just barely but since on the same airline, they took me by people mover cars to the gate and I was waited for by Singapore Airlines. At Roissy CDG had to take twice buses to reach my terminal T2F for the first time ever, but you always learn something new traveling lol!

Driving by car took me to see a gas station (glamorous::)  petrafirma and the old stores like K Circle and A&W, and eat at the town of Ngoro (see post). Stepping out  into Serpong, Tentang location , had a great lunch at the Lembur Kuring restaurant .Very good restaurant of local regional cuisine.  Their official Lembur Kuring : https://lemburkuringjkt.com/tentang/

Another day  I was taken for lunch at Sambara another west Sumatran regional cuisine resto that was exotic and authentic . Here you pick the food and then they cook it for you, superb ! Unfortunately I heard the resto has closed yet have a picture for the memories!

Lastly, for lunch again on the road was taken to another authentic restaurant Sederhana, a typical padang region cuisine, here they stack the dishes according to how many people to eat and you choose which ones to eat if you try them all they will charge you for all;so be picky but all good stuff ::) They have several branches in the city too. I did venture out to eat at BonCafe, Jalan Gubeng Raya 44-46. It is a great place for families and nice prices in buffet style or order from the menu. The fish dish was great ,good service, nice ambiance,and great prices. However, I am told it has closed, here just for the memories of always.

There you go folks, another wonderful experience in Asia, and in nice Indonesia to boot, My experiences in Surabaya were always great and looking forward to be back, eventually. There , my parents born in Cuba met and later on I was born there too. 100% guanche (annexed Tenerife to Spain on April 10 ,1496). I left Cuba as many have to Madrid, Spain where I lived for 4 years. Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
