For walks in my eternal Paris and alongside the Seine river this is tops! Also, lots of wonderful architecture and history here and we love it. I found me a picture in my cd rom vault that should be in my blog for you and me , Therefore, let me tell you a bit on the place de l’Alma of Paris !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I
I have given metro and bus connections but the best is to walk it from wherever you are, Paris is walkable indeed, and once inside is the best way to see the city of lights! The place de l’Alma is a square of the 8éme and 16éme arrondissements or district of Paris. It is about 110 meters long and is located at the meeting of Avenue de New York and ,Avenue du Président-Wilson, Avenue George-V, Avenue Montaigne and the cours Albert-Ier. It takes its name from its vicinity with the pont de l’Alma (see post), which commemorates the Battle of Alma of 1854 during the Crimean War. The famous statue of the Zouave. This military figure, installed on a pier of the Pont de l’Alma, has unwittingly become a popular measuring tool: when the water of the Seine reaches its feet, Parisians know that they must prepare for a serious flood.
The Place de l’Alma square was created by the decree of March 6, 1858 and aligned, between the avenues of New York and President-Wilson, by a decree of March 9, 1897. This site is served by the Alma-Marceau Metro station line 9 (see pic) with 3 accesses : 1 Avenue Montaigne-Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, opening onto the right of no, 7 of the Place de l’Alma, at the corner with Avenue Montaigne and Avenue George-V , 2 Pont de l’Alma Bateaux-Mouches -Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques-Chirac located opposite no 1 of the Place de l’Alma, at the corner with Avenue de New-York. It provides direct access to Place Diana; 3 Avenue du Président Wilson -Musée d’Art moderne- Palais de Tokyo consisting of a fixed staircase coupled with an ascending escalator and equipped with a Dervaux totem, located to the right of no 4 of this avenue. and the Pont de l’Alma RER C station as well as by the Alma-Marceau bus Lines 42, 63, 72, 80 and 92. The metro station is located on the Place de l’Alma, near Place Diana, and oriented along the axis of Avenue du Président-Wilson. It is located between Iéna and Franklin D. Roosevelt metro stations. The station opened on May 27, 1923, with the commissioning of the first extension of Line 9 from Trocadéro to Saint-Augustin. As was the case for a third of the stations in the network between 1974 and 1984, its platforms were modernized in the “Andreu-Motte” style, in this case in a shade of blue that was not repeated. Just refresh renovated in 2002.

But the place de l’Alma is also about fashion (Fondation Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint-Laurent), the arts (Musée du Quai Branly) and the spiritual (Cathédrale Américaine de Paris). Walking up Avenue du Président Wilson, the Palais de Tokyo (Museum of Modern Art of the City of Paris), the Palais Galliera (Fashion Museum), and the Guimet Museum will delight art lovers. On the other side, Avenue Montaigne offers a superb showcase of Parisian and European fashion. In the middle of Avenue Montaigne, the Plaza Athénée remains one of the capital’s most beautiful palaces. Let’s not forget the performance venues: the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées for classical music and dance, and the Crazy Horse for less formal evenings. Places to see by Place de l’Alma Avenue Montaigne, its boutiques and the Plazza Athénée The Palais de Tokyo and the Museum of Modern Art, the Palais Galliera, which houses the Fashion Museum, the Guimet Museum and its remarkable Asian collections , The entrance to the Parisian sewers tour, on the left bank of the Seine, at the western end of the Quai d’Orsay ,and the American Cathedral of Paris, located at 23 Avenue George-V. Of many memorable visits and my fav for a relaxing lunch or dinner any time the Le Grand Corona restaurant with its elegant and cozy interior, its superb terrace and a refined menu showcasing exceptional products and French gastronomy. Each element of the decor is designed to embody the French art of living. In an interior enhanced by shades of deep blue and delicately colored feathers, the guests enjoy a setting that is both sophisticated and warm. Indeed cachet !! Other things to see here are : The place de l’Alma square is famous for its Flamme de la Liberté (see post)or Liberty Flame, a replica of the Statue of Liberty’s flame. This flame, donated by the Herald Tribune in 1989, is installed between the square and the beginning of the bridge, overlooking the tunnel where Princess Diana died in a car accident on August 31, 1997. It has since served as a memorial for many of the princess’s admirers. This part of the square has been officially named place Diana Square since 2018. At No 3 : à l’angle de l’avenue du Président Wilson Eugéne Druet ,photographer and gallery owner, He was initially the owner of the Yacht Club Français, a small family café that he bought in 1893, at 3, Place de l’Alma (now Avenue du Président-Wilson). Auguste Rodin, whose studio at the Dépôt des marbres at 182, Rue de l’Université was not far from the Yacht Club Français, regularly frequented Eugène Druet’s café and introduced him to art photography. Il abandonna en 1903 pour ouvrir une galerie d’art au 114, rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré. The Monument to Adam Mickiewicz by Antoine Bourdelle was originally installed in the center of the square in 1929. Due to traffic problems, it was moved further east, to Cours Albert-Ier, in 1956. The Place de la Reine-Astrid (formerly Square de l’Alma) is located at the corner of Avenue Montaigne and Rue Jean Goujon. The Monument to the recognition of Belgium to France was inaugurated in 1923. A sculpture representing the Seine was placed in 1962.
