We were on our local road warrior mode a while back in my quant Médan. As usual, I passed on my road warrior trails , briefly , and took pictures on the run, I am happy to have found me more in my cd rom vault to show in my blog for you and me, This is a nice area and historical indeed but still off the beaten path and worth the detour, me think, For reference, the town of Médan is in dept 78 of the Yvelines in the Île de France region of my belle France, Therefore, let me tell you a bit on curiosities of Médan !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I
The town of Médan is 12 km from Poissy , 16 km from Saint-Germain-en-Laye,23 km from Versailles, and 26 km from Paris. Superbe ! The roads here were taken by yours truly many times, especially the RD 164 and RD 154. The first dessert the center of Médan connecting to nice Villennes-sur-Seine, and leading to the RD 154, in the entrance to Vernouillet ,another nice town. The second, bypass Médan, and gives access to the RD 113, at a place called La Maison Blanche in the town of Orgeval, and continues towards Les Mureaux ,also crossing the Seine river into Pont de Triel-sur-Seine bridge between Vernouillet and Triel-sur-Seine. Awesome area !
The Church Saint-Germain was built in 1635 at the request of the Lord of Médan, Jean Bourdin. It is believed to be the work of Claude Perrault, brother of Charles, author of the tales of the same name. This church is particularly harmonious thanks to its façade and its two bell towers, each raised with a stone dome and topped with a Tuscan lantern, similar to the castle’s postern tower. Its façade bears traces of the 1789 French revolution, hammered coats of arms and crosses, inscriptions, etc. Inside, you can see the baptismal font known as the “Kings of France,” from the former church Saint-Pol in Paris, donated in 1494 by Lord Henri Perdrier. These fonts witnessed the baptism of the future kings Charles V and Charles VI. The paintings, as well as the recently restored Renaissance furniture, are well worth a visit.

The Château de Médan dates back to the 15C, enlarged in the 19C. The poet Pierre de Ronsard stayed there in the 16C, welcomed by the Lord of the time, Jean Brinon. The castle is located at 50, rue Pierre Curie , The castle is situated on a hillside on the banks of the Seine river in a landscape immortalized by Paul Cézanne who visited it, This former hunting lodge preserves the memory of Ronsard and the poets of the Pléiade during the Renaissance, as well as King Henry IV and his love affair with the beautiful Gabrielle d’Estrées. It was also here that, in 1924, the Belgian writer Maurice Maeterlinck, Nobel Prize winner for Literature, author of Pelléas et Melisande and The Blue Bird, was captivated by the setting and settled down leaving for the United States in 1939. Occupied by the nazis during WWII, the château was abandoned before being restored to its former glory under the leadership of its new owners, who personally welcome visitors and tell them the history of the place.

The Lavoir or washhouse of the 19C, rue Pasteur, around corner rue Verdun and the City/town hall.
