The Church Sainte Jeanne d’Arc of Versailles !!!

I am looking back and found me wonderful pictures in my cd rom vault of this memorable church near my former home, While living in Versailles! ,I walked a lot by here for its wonderful mansions and good living ,so much good times with the whole family there, memories forever! You are coming to see monuments away from the palace/museum , and you should, this is worth the detour, Therefore, let me tell you about the Church Sainte Jeanne d’Arc of Versailles !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Church Sainte Jeanne d’Arc built between 1923-1926,in the quartier or neighborhood of Clagny-Glatigny, at Place Élisabeth-Brasseur of the City of Versailles, It is about 650 meters from my former home , but in another world district next to mine!

The Church Sainte Jeanne d’Arc takes the square shape of very ancient Armenian churches, typical of places of worship in the Middle East. The church is built with the very new technique of reinforced concrete, covered with bricks and plaster with geometric patterns. We enter through the main portal surmounted by a stained glass window and a panel covered with fleurs-de-lis. Above the stained glass window, we see the coat of arms of Joan of Arc, ennobled in 1429, to whom this church is dedicated: two fleurs-de-lis and a sword surmounted by a royal crown.

The Church Sainte Jeanne d’Arc walls are covered with stone arabesques contrast with the large fresco in the apse done in 1934, the oil painting on mounted canvas covering the entire apse and depicting four scenes from the life of Saint Joan of Arc was placed at the back of the choir. It includes four scenes: On the left, Joan, tending her sheep near Domrémy, hears the voices of Saint Michael, Saint Catherine, and Saint Margaret. In the center, the coronation of Charles VII in Reims. On the right, his martyrdom in Rouen. Above, Joan is welcomed into Heaven by her patron saints. On the left side altar a chapel dedicated to the Sacred Heart, In 1930 the Mutin / Cavaillé Coll organ, donated by a parishioner for the temporary wooden chapel, was installed in the gallery, In 2007, the parish acquired the organ from Radio France Studio 103. It was inaugurated in September 2008.

A bit of history I like tell us that a temporary wooden chapel was built in 1919 along Rue Albert-Joly, it responds to the wish made by Mgr Gibier, Bishop of Versailles on August 31, 1914. He would have promised to build a church in honor of Joan of Arc if the city survived the German offensives. On May 16, 1920, Joan of Arc was canonized in Rome. In Versailles, Canon Subtil, in charge of the fulfillment of the vow and pastor of the new parish, instituted the tradition of a preparatory novena, so that “the city does not forget the vow made to the Saint”. On 31 mai 1926 the new church was consecrated.

Clagny-Glatigny is one of the eight districts of Versailles. This district is rich in history. It is paved with sumptuous bourgeois residences, pavilions dressed to the nines, all in an ocean of private or public green spaces such as the Fausses-Reposes forest where, in the past, royal carriages hunted. One of the best examples in this area is the incredible Drusch house, a defiance of gravity imagined and built in the 1960s.The Pavillon des Filtres (Filter Pavilion) supplied the city with water from 1790. Rue du Parc de Clagny has been the name of the old Route des Fonds-Maréchaux since 1813. It was named in memory of a former drained pond and Clagny Park, purchased by Louis XIV in 1665 to expand his father’s château. The district borders the Fausses Reposes wood forest to the north and east, the the town of Le Chesnay-Rocquencourt to the west beyond the Rueil road. The neighboring districts are Notre-Dame (mine) , to the west of Place Laboulaye, Montreuil to the south, and Jussieu beyond the Avenue de Villeneuve l’Etang. With the arrival of the railway in 1836, the Rive-Droite train station replaced the old Château de Clagny built by Louis XIV in 1665. The Clagny-Glatigny district of Versailles is served by two train stations, the Rive Droite station (mine) and Montreuil station (both line L), providing access to La Défense and Paris Saint-Lazare.
