The Place de la Madeleine of Paris !!!

This Place de la Madeleine is a square very close to me as used to walked by it every day to work as always figure better than going underground so walked from the Gare Saint Lazare to my job. This strangely enough after passing for several years by it to go to work do not have pictures but one found in my cd rom vault and make me redo this post with new text and links for you and me, Therefore, here is my take on the place de la Madeleine of Paris !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Place de la Madeleine is in the 8éme arrondissement of Paris. It is a rectangular shaped square of 218 meters long and 128 meters wide. On this square ends the following streets: rue Chauveau-Lagarde; rue Tronchet; rue de Sèze; boulevard de la Madeleine; rue Duphot; rue Royale; galerie de la Madeleine; boulevard Malesherbes; and passage de la Madeleine. It bears this name because the Church de la Madeleine (see post) is located on this square.  This square is served by the Madeleine metro station with lines 8, 12 and 14. The Place de la Madeleine was formed in 1815 on land belonging to the old Madeleine church which was probably located on the site of present-day 8, boulevard Malesherbes, at the corner where rue Pasquier meets rue of Ville-l’Évêque.

Some of the remarkable buildings here me think are at No 2 where at the beginning of the 20C housed the famous Durand restaurant, where opposition deputies met in 1848 and which had its heyday at the time of boulangisme from the undone uprising of 1889, which General Georges Boulanger refused and where he celebrated his victory in the legislative elections in the café. This was, also, the favorite gathering place of politicians, artists, and writers, including the authors Anatole France and Émile Zola. Now, a Ralph Lauren store! Also, No 3: Boutique de Patrick Roger, chocolatier, building built in 1842. At No 4 see the sculpture d Andrea Roggi, At No 6 the Maille boutique (mustard fame). My favorite always at home and see pic !! At no 7 The Whisky Shop, At No 9 Maison Lucas Carton. It houses: the Galerie de la Madeleine, a covered passage connecting the Place de la Madeleine to the rue Boissy-d’Anglas.   Here was one of the homes of Jean Cocteau and Jean Marais. Going back it was here that in in 1732, Robert Lucas opened an English Tavern serving cold meat and pudding. In 1925, the restaurant passed to Francis Carton who renamed it Lucas-Carton. Seven small lounges are created on the first floor, accessible by the passage de la Madeleine. In 2005, the restaurant was renamed Senderens by its owner, chef Alain Senderens, who took over the establishment in 1985. He decide to hand over the Lucas Carton sign. July 2014, after the departure of Alain Senderens.

At No 10 lived the philosopher, statesman and academician François-Jules Suisse aka Jules Simon ( born in Lorient Morbihan 56, and died in Paris. At No 11 Grand Café Fauchon, and the Fauchon Paris Madeleine – Boutique Thé & Infusion, yhe store opened here in 1886. At No 16 the Magdalena restaurant, follow by the Paris London right across the Les Fleurs de Marie-Antoinette , ,many times purchase for my dear late Martine ! Right along a theater show Le Cours Kerver, At No 17 Caviar Kaspia and next to it the Mariage Frères teas , At No 19 L’Atelier Maison de la Truffe Madeleine and La Maison de la Truffe resto, At No 21 the passage de la Madeleine: opened in 1815 under the name of “passage de la Ville-l’Évêque”; It starts at 19, place de la Madeleine and ends at 4, rue de l’Arcade, with a length of 53 meters. Here is, also, the entrance to the Saemes car Parking Madeleine-Tronchet, At 25-27 the famous hardware supplies store Leroy Merlin, At no 31 Nicolas wine store, again many purchases here on way home ! At No 33 Hôtel Madeleine Plaza, , At No 35 Café Madeleine, my favorite spot there many times memories forever.

The wonderful quartier or neighborhood no 31 of the Madeleine located between the Avenue des Champs-Élysées and the Rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré, is home to embassies, major institutions, and art and luxury boutiques. The neighborhood’s festive atmosphere, provided by numerous performance halls, cinemas, theaters, as well as brasseries and restaurants, as well as its proximity to the Saint-Lazare train station, make it a popular destination. Some of the institutions are Élysée Palace, seat of the Presidency of the French Republic and the official residence of the President of the French Republic (France) since the Second Republic. Hôtel de Beauvau, seat of the Ministry of the Interior since 1861. Hôtel de Charost, residence of the British Ambassador to France. And the Embassy of the United States. Best known streets and squares are the Boulevard Malesherbes, Rue Tronchet, Rue des Mathurins, Rue de la Ville-l’Évêque, Cité Berryer, Rue d’Aguesseau,Rue de Surène, Place Beauvau, Place de la Madeleine, Place des Saussaies, Square Louis-XVI with theChapelle expiatoire or Expiatory Chapel, and Church de la Madeleine, one of the most photographed monuments in Paris.
