This is Davron !!!

And coming back to my old stumping road warrior area ,and catching up on my many photos ,most in my cd rom vault to bring you new areas and ideas to visit my belle France, here is a new one. Therefore, let me tell you a bit about this is Davron !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The village of Davron is located in the Yvelines department no 78 , in the Île-de-France region of my belle France, It is on the Versailles plain, 19 km from Versailles and 15 km from Saint-Germain-en-Laye, and 455 km from my current home. The town is served by the road D307, which connects Versailles to the Mauldre valley.

The
lavoir Saint Blaise washhouse dates from 1893. It consists of a rectangular basin and another square basin. The washerwomen were protected by a canopy on three sides. At the time, it was a meeting place for women. A cattle trough of the same dimensions adjoins the washhouse and testifies to Davron’s agricultural vocation, a stopover on the “ox trail” that led to the Poissy livestock market.(see post).

Other things to see here is the Church Saint Marie Magdalene dates back to 1098, during the reign of Philip I. Construction began there and was completed in 1115, under Louis VI the Fat.

A bit of history tell us that around 1117-1130, a Benedictine priory dedicated to Saint Magdalene was built by Nivard de Poissy. The convent buildings occupied the north and west sides of the church. The priory was part of the Abbey of Josaphat. It possessed a rare copy of the famous Martyrology of Usuard, known as the Davron or Davéronian Codex, which had been written by Usuard, a Benedictine monk of the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés in the late 9C.
Davron was a hamlet in the neighboring parish of Feucherolles until the French revolution. Three hectares of vines were planted in 2016 on the edge of the village. A first in a century. Before the phylloxera epidemic that decimated the plants at the end of the 19C, the vineyard in Île-de-France was the largest, covering 44,000 hectares. The first in Île-de-France, whose premier crus could be tasted from 2021 at the Domaine de La Bouche du Roi , The official Domaine de La Bouche du Roi : https://la-bouche-du-roi.com/
