Curiosities of Marnes la Coquette !!

It’s a place that I have been by several times, as used to drive around it to avoid trafic when lived in Versailles and going east to Paris etc, At this time the pictures were not in my mind and sadly did not took much, However, found me one that make me write this post for you and me.  I like to tell you a bit on this is Marnes la Coquette !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.

The town of Marnes-la-Coquette is located around the Domaine de Villeneuve-l’Etang that belonged to Napoleon III. It was the emperor Napoleon III who, in 1859, authorized by decree the small town of Marnes to take the name of Marnes-la-Coquette. It is in the Hauts de Seine dept 92 of the Île de France region of my belle France. The town served from the RD 907 which takes the old rue de Vaucresson, from the Domaine de la Marche and Garches to from the Raymond-Poincaré hospital in the town of Garches, (my route), Also, by the RD 407, which takes rue Yves-Cariou then rue Georges-et-Xavier-Schlumberger. It is bordered by the parc Saint-Cloud park, and the Forest of Fausses-Reposes. The town is 15 km from Paris, 15 km from Saint Germain en Laye, 6 km from Versailles, and 469 km from my current home, From Versailles we came on the D185 avenue de Saint Cloud, continues on Avenue des Etats Unis, bear left on the D182 avenue du Général Pershing to roundpoint carriere de la porte Verte bear right into Rue de l’Impératrice same name rue de Versailles into the D407 at Rue Georges et Xavier Schlumberger City center,

The rue Georges-et-Xavier-Schlumberger follows the route of D407. It is the town’s main street. It begins as an extension of Avenue de Marnes, at the intersection of Rue Yves-Cariou and Rue de Versailles. It then crosses the village at the Place de l’Hôtel de Ville, where Rue de la Porte-Blanche begins. It then curves to end at the edge of the town of Ville-d’Avray (see post). This street was renamed at the Liberation of Paris ,in tribute to Georges Schlumberger, a hunter in the 1st Shock Parachute Battalion, who died for France on October 4, 1944, in Servance (Haute-Saône) and to his brother Xavier, born on October 25, 1925, in Versailles, deported to Buchenwald by the convoy leaving Paris on August 15, 1944, who died for France in Ellrich on March 20, 1945. It was on this site that, in the 13C, Eudes de Sully built, along with the village, a first church dedicated to Saint Eloi and Saint Sebastian. Formerly the property of singer Johnny Hallyday,(see pic) where he died in 2017. Called La Savannah,  it was acquired in 1999 from the banker Maurice Schlumberger.  Access to the house being prohibited, Other things to see are the Domaine National de Saint-Cloud park. The City/town hall of Marnes-la-Coquette , and the Church Saint Eugénie.

  1. Everybody I ha talked to about Paris and its region has always talked about how happy they were to leave. I get that. I did the same in 2001. However, I remember these beautiful houses, like the one in your picture, with a great fondness. They were built to be beautiful. I think they’re marvelous. It’s just a shame they’re no longer affordable. I would happily live in one.
