This is Richebourg !!

This is off the beaten path town in a vastly popular department 78 Yvelines just west of Paris with the capital city of Versailles! In the Île de France region of my belle France, A wonderful road warrior ride into my former region that is was worth the detour me think. This is a new post with a picture found in my cd rom vault that should be in my blog for you and me, This was my old hunting ground…and I have come back in my blog as nostalgia sets in always. Therefore, let me tell you about this is Richebourg !! Hope you enjoy the post as I

The village of Richebourg is located 22 km from Mantes-la-Jolie, 40 km from Versailles and 459 km from my current town. The village is served mainly by the departmental road D983 which connects Gisors and Mantes-la-Jolie to Houdan and Nogent-le-Roi.From which we came always.

One monument that caught my eye and worth the return was the Church Saint-Georges ,a flamboyant Gothic style of the 16-18C, rebuilt on the site of an earlier church from the 12C. Its reconstruction spanned several centuries. It began in the 16C in the flamboyant Gothic style and continued in the Renaissance style while incorporating the remains of the nave of the old Romanesque church from the 12C. The church is now municipal property and is part of the diocese of Versailles. Visits are possible on request. On the outside, the marriage of styles is illustrated by the contrast between the martial character of the medieval-looking bell tower and the richness of flamboyant Gothic style highlighted by gargoyles. The bell tower with a quadrangular base has a turret staircase. It is entered through a pointed arched doorway. This tower is covered with a pepperpot roof surrounded by four smaller pepperpots, all made of slate. The nave is paneled and decorated with carved beams, the transept is composed of two bays, the square choir with three naves is vaulted with ribs and the apse is polygonal. The church preserves works from several periods: a stone Madonna from the 15C called Our Lady of Richebourg; a stained glass window from the 16C representing the Tree of Jesse; two sculptures, a Saint Catherine from the 16C and a Saint Nicholas from the 18C; two paintings from the 19C on each side of the choir, represent The Visit of Christ to Martha and Mary and Jesus and the Samaritan Woman.

Other things to see here me think with more time are the Château de Richebourg :built between 1522 and 1537 on the site of a feudal castle, it was enlarged with two wings in 1709. In 1976, it was acquired by the Mallet Foundation, which transformed it into a medical and residential center for people with disabilities. The Villa de la Pièce du Fient, remains of a Roman villa belonging to a Gallic nobleman dating from the 1C BC and abandoned in the 3C. The twelve- to thirteen-hectare site, discovered in 1978, was excavated from 1994 to 1998 by the Yvelines archaeological service. As an anecdote, Edith Piaf came to Richebourg to convalesce with Lou Barrier, her manager, and also gave her name to the multi-purpose hall.

A bit of history tell us that the lordship was the property of the lords of Richebourg, vassals of the counts of Montfort-L’Amaury, from 1100 until 1468, then passed into the hands of various noble families: Sabrevois until 1635, Beaulieu, Cossé-Brissac until 1831. The village was called Saulx-et-Richebourg until 1800.
