Therefore, let me tell you about theThéâtre le Ranelagh of Paris !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Théâtre le Ranelagh is located at 5 rue des Vignes in the Muette quartier or neighborhood in the 16éme arrondissement or district of Paris. Built in 1894, it was a private music room until 1931, when it became a cinema, before being converted into a theater in 1985. The theater is served by the RER C at Avenue du Président-Kennedy and Boulainvilliers stations, as well as by metro line 9 at La Muette station.

The carved oak music room in the Flemish neo-Renaissance style was inaugurated on May 14, 1895 with Wagner’s Das Rheingold. On the pediment of the door leading to the room, Mors had the Latin maxim “Mihi amicisque meis” (which still exists today) inscribed, indicating the purpose of the recitals he organized there in the presence of Claude Debussy, while also presenting his collection of old musical instruments. The Hall and its decor made of wood and featuring a coffered ceiling, is one of the few French-style theaters in Paris.

The Château de Boulainvilliers, acquired in 1722 by Samuel Bernard for his mistress, became a cultural epicenter under Alexandre Joseph de La Pouplinière, a patron passionate about music. He transformed the estate into a gathering place for the great minds of the time, including Rameau ,Quentin de La Tour, Van Loo, Stamitz, and Voltaire. The French revolution left the castle and the Passy park intact, but in 1815, the gardens of the property were devastated by the English. The estate was sold in 1826 to speculators, who created a new neighborhood called “Boulainvilliers” in its place. From this fragmented land, the car manufacturer Louis Mors acquired a large portion on which he built, in 1894, a private mansion and a music room, on the site of the one at La Pouplinière. This music enthusiast encouraged the emergence of musical aesthetics of the second half of the 19C and the beginning of the 20C by programming artists such as Georges Bizet, Claude Terrasse, Richard Wagner, etc. The mansion was subsequently demolished, with only the music room remaining. In 1931, the building was transformed into a movie theater. From 1957 to the mid-1970s, Le Ranelagh joined the network of the French Association of Arthouse Cinemas (AFCAE). In 1985, the old cinema was permanently converted into a theater. Madona Bouglione directed the theater from the following year, and did so for around twenty years.

Today, Théâtre Le Ranelagh continues this legacy by hosting performances that reflect the richness of its artistic past, bridging the prestige of yesterday with contemporary creation. Currently, the Ranelagh Theatre performs all sorts of classic plays by many famous French playwrights, from Molière to Corneille to Victor Hugo, among others. Almost all of these wonderful French classics are surtitled in English !
