We have driven and walked in my eternal Paris, and would like to have an imprint in my blog on the wonderful family times we had there, There is so much to see , doing my best, and glad found me these pictures in my cd rom vault ,which now transposing in my blog for you and me, This was my former worked city, so glad to post more memorable spots on it, I thank you for your readership over the years and to bear with my rants! The allée Cuvier is a lane in the Jardin des Plantes (see post), in the 5éme arrondissement of Paris. Jean Léopold Nicolas Frédéric Cuvier, known as Georges Cuvier, biologist and paleontologist. Rue Cuvier also pays tribute to him; his name is also inscribed on the Eiffel Tower. The allée Buffon is a lane in the Jardin des Plantes as well. Naturalist Georges Louis Leclerc, Count of Buffon, director of the garden, has his statue in the garden, by Jean Carlus (1908). Rue Buffon also pays tribute to him.

The Galeries Lafayette are a department store chain belonging to the Galeries Lafayette group. The Galeries Lafayette Haussmann (see post) is located on Boulevard Haussmann in the 9éme arrondissement. It is the largest department store in Europe and the second largest in the world. Galeries Lafayette receives an average of 37 million visitors per year, or more than 100,000 customers daily, across the store’s four interconnected locations (Coupole, L’Homme, Maison and Gourmet). The site is served by metro stations lines 7 and 9, Chaussée d’Antin – La Fayette and Havre – Caumartin lines 3 and 9, and by the Auber station on the RER A. Saint-Lazare train station is also nearby. I came out from it and walked to work for a couple years every day !! Memories forever !

The statues of the six continents in cast iron, formerly gilded, were commissioned for the Universal Exhibition of 1878 and installed on the terrace of the Palais du Trocadéro (now gone) above the waterfall. They remained there from 1878 to 1935 then stored in Nantes from 1935 to 1985 before being installed on the esplanade of the Musée d’Orsay (see post) in 1985. You have the Oceania by Mathurin Moreau Height: 2.12 m and width: 1.48 m. South America by Aimé Millet on the shield: Brazil Ecuador Bolivia Uruguay Peru Chile Colombia Venezuela Paraguay, and Central-America, North America by Ernest-Eugène Hiolle, Height 2.16 m and width 1.34 m, it is inscribed Washington, Lafayette, Franklin, and Jefferson. Africa by Eugène Delaplanche, 2.10 m high and 1.84 m wide. Asia by Alexandre Falguière Europe by Alexandre Schoenewerk, 2.22 m high and 1.58 m wide.

The rue Michal is in the 13éme arrondissement or district of Paris located in the Maison-Blanche quartier or neighborhood. It is named after the Inspector General of Bridges and Roads, Director of the Municipal Public Works Department of the City of Paris, Zoroastre Alexis Michal. Former street in the village of Gentilly called “rue Neuve-Désirée”, this street took its current name on May 10, 1881. Rue Michal is served nearby by lines 6 at Corvisart station and line 7 at Tolbiac station. The street opens at its eastern end onto the Sainte-Anne-de-la-Butte-aux-Cailles Church (see pic at end) and at its western end onto the École nationale supérieure des télécommunications (Télécom ParisTech).

The Institut de France was created in October 25 1795 and house in an old building of the old school or Collège des Quatre-Nations located at 23 quai de Conti in the 6éme arrondissement just facing the Seine river. It includes the French Academy or Académie française (40 members), the inscriptions and noble letters academy or Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres (55 members), Science Academy or Académie des Sciences (262 members), the fine arts academy or Académie des beaux-arts (59 members), and the moral and political sciences academy or Académie des sciences morales et politiques (50 members).
