The Château d’Amboise,the gardens !!!

Let me tell you about a dandy in my road warrior rounds in the wonderful sublime Loire Valley. This is a spot have come several times to the gorgeous castle, I came by again this week and took nice pictures for you and me. It was a great experience, and always looking forward to be back, eventually, Do read my several posts on the castle and City in my blog, This time let me tell you again on the Château d’Amboise, the gardens !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

At the exit of the Royal Castle of Amboise, a discovery trail of the gardens several gardens enhance the château’s exterior design. You see the terrasse de Naples or Naples terrace located to the left of the Aumale Gallery, this terrace features three belvederes overlooking the Loire. It houses a Renaissance garden at the end of the 15C, designed by Dom Pacello da Mercogliano. The gardener innovated by opening windows onto the landscape, thus departing from the medieval tradition of the walled garden. This terrace was planted, until a few years ago, with lime trees along its entire length. This configuration erased all traces of the first garden of the Château, created in 1496 according to the wishes of Charles VIII, returning from Italy. The garden bears within it the seeds of the gardens of the French Renaissance, open to the landscape and visible from the rooms of the residence.

The terrasse supérieure or upper terrace, planted with hornbeams, runs along the medieval rampart to the northeast of the estate. This hill, designed for defensive purposes, has been converted into a belvedere, revealing at its base a small room decorated with a sculpture of King Louis XII’s symbolic animal: the porcupine. The belvedere’s position allows one to see the great ditches and the counter-escarpment beyond the eastern rampart.

The jardins paysagers or landscaped gardens consists of paths lined with holm oaks, boxwood, cypresses, and muscat vines. It is extended on the southeast side by the Oriental Garden, designed in 2005 by Rachid Koraïchi in honor of the companions of Emir Abd el-Kader who died during their captivity. An avenue facing Mecca crosses the alignment of the steles.

A bust of Leonardo da Vinci is erected on the site of the Saint-Florentin collegiate church, an 11C Romanesque church destroyed around 1807, where the artist died in 1519.
