This is again another dandy monument in my eternal Paris. I have done quite a bit of walking in Paris, and never stop amazing me of its abundance of architecture and historical sights that not only are known but also unknown to most. This is another beauty that needs to be seen more, me think ; glad to have found new pictures in my cd rom vault that should be in my blog for you and me, Therefore, here is my take on the Church Saint Jean Bosco of Paris !! Hope you enjoy it as I.

The Church Saint-Jean-Bosco is an Art Deco church located in the 20éme arrondissement of Paris. It was built between 1933 and 1938. It is dedicated to Saint John Bosco, founder of the Salesians of Don Bosco. The church is located at 79 rue Alexandre-Dumas. The parish was founded on February 20, 1938. It is considered one of the most successful and consistent churches built in the 1930s, thanks to the Œuvre des Chantiers du Cardinal (an association created in 1931 by Cardinal Verdier to promote the construction and maintenance of Catholic churches in Paris and the Île de France region).
In 1859, by founding the Oratory of Saint Francis de Sales, Don Bosco and the Salesians dedicated themselves to welcoming and educating young boys, often orphans. In 1872, it was the turn of young girls. With Marie-Dominique Mazarello, Jean Bosco created the Daughters of Marie-Auxiliatrice (called Salesians). The blessing of the foundation stone by Cardinal Verdier took place in March 1933. The finished church was blessed on October 10, 1937. The bell tower is 53 meters high. The church includes a crypt dedicated to Saint Anne. It has now been transformed into a parish reception hall. The ornamentation is by the Mauméjean workshop who created the onyx altars and pulpit. It features stained-glass windows by Jean Gaudin and Antoine Bessac, sculptures by Georges Serraz and Yvonne Parvillée, ironwork by Raymond Subes, and mosaics (one depicts Cardinal Verdier). The baptistery grille is by Kiss with ceramics by Marjolaine Lanel. In the choir behind the altar, a luminous altarpiece represents in relief Christ on the cross surrounded by the Virgin Mary and Saint John the Apostle. It was made by the Mauméjean Workshops in stained glass, mosaic and glass cabochons. On the vault of the choir a mosaic represents the Holy Spirit enveloping the Father and the Son. The whole is surrounded by the signs of the zodiac. The vault of the nave is covered with mosaics representing the litanies of the Holy Virgin (Ivory Tower, Golden Vase, etc.).

The beautiful altars in the church’s transept, covered with mosaics by Mauméjean, are dedicated to the founder of the Salesians and to Mary Auxiliatrice. The right transept is dedicated to Saint John Bosco. In the stained-glass window, the Sacred Heart envelops episodes from the saint’s life with its mantle. Altar dedicated to Saint Jean Bosco in the right transept. The saint is surrounded by Cardinal Verdier, the Salesian Fathers, the Help of Christians Sisters, and young people. The altar dedicated to Mary Auxiliatrice in the left transept.
In the beautiful nave, on the north side, the stained-glass windows of the aisles represent the Curé d’Ars, Saint Denis, Saint Joan of Arc, Saint Francis de Sales, Our Lady of Lourdes, and the Sacred Heart. The stained-glass windows of the gallery represent the apostles Saint Bartholomew, Saint James the Greater, Saint Thomas, Saint Andrew, Saint John, and Saint Peter. On the south side, the stained-glass windows of the aisles represent Saint Louis, Saint Genevieve, Saint Michael, Saint Vincent de Paul, Our Lady of La Salette, and Saint Joseph. The stained-glass windows of the gallery represent the apostles Saint Simon, Saint James the Less, Saint Philip, Saint Jude, Saint Matthew, and Saint Paul.
