I admit contemporary arts is not my forte, I am from an older era ! However, this is one of the monuments to see while in Paris, a must, really at least once. Lately, there is a revolution there on its moving and renovations , and should have a post of its own,  This is a news info post and will be in my black and white series, no pictures, Therefore, let me give you my take on the Beaubourg or centre Pompidou of Paris, moving/renovations !! Hope you enjoy this post as I

The Georges Pompidou National Center for Art and Culture (CNAC), commonly known as the Georges Pompidou Center, or Centre Pompidou or the Centre Beaubourg or simply the Beaubourg is a polycultural institution born from the will of the President. Georges Pompidou, a great lover of modern art, created in the heart of Paris an original cultural institution entirely devoted to modern and contemporary creation, where visual arts would be associated with books, design, music and cinema. It is located in the Saint-Merri neighborhood or quartier, in 4éme arrondissement or district of Paris, between the neighborhoods of Les Halles, in the west, and the Marais, in the east.  On January 31, 1977, the Georges Pompidou National Center for Art and Culture was inaugurated by President Valéry Giscard d’Estaing in the presence of Prime Minister Raymond Barre, Mrs. Claude Pompidou and numerous personalities. Later on February 2, it was opened to the public.

Starting this Fall 2025, its iconic building in Paris’s Beaubourg district will close its doors for a renovation that will allow it to reconnect with its original utopia by 2030. At the same time, the spirit of the Centre Pompidou is embodied in numerous partner venues throughout France and internationally, thanks to the ambitious Constellation cultural program. And in the fall of 2026, a new venue entirely dedicated to creation and conservation will open in Massy, Essonne (dept 91) ; the Centre Pompidou Francilien – art factory. Following the gradual closure of all levels of the historic Beaubourg building, the vast renovation project, entrusted to the architectural firms AIA, Moreau-Kusunoki and Frida Escobedo, will be launched in early 2026. Constellation relies on friendly and reciprocal partnerships with institutions foremost among them the Centre Pompidou-Metz, the Grand Palais and soon the Centre Pompidou Francilien , cities and regions to introduce the spirit of the Centre to new audiences. The Public Information Library (Bpi) is moving to the 12éme arrondissement of Paris, to the Lumière building, which openned its doors on August 25, 2025, with the same opening hours and access conditions. Studio 13/16 will move in the fall nearby, to the Gaîté Lyrique in the 3éme arrondissement. As for the Centre’s cinema programmes, they will be located at the mk2 Bibliothèque from September 2025. Only Ircam will remain in its historic premises, Place Stravinsky, at the heart of a cultural activation programme led by the Centre Pompidou and enabling the Beaubourg district to remain a centre of attraction. Check for schedules ok.
