And here is another jewel that I am lucky to find more pictures in my cd rom vault that should be in my blog for you and me, This is a museum to visit while in London. The place is very chic, nice, for all its avant garde collection! we love it, and came back twice during our family stay there. Oh this is the Victoria & Albert Museum or V&A. Let me tell you a bit more on the Victoria & Albert Museum of London, part II !!! Hope you enjoy ths post as I.
The Victoria and Albert Museum, often abbreviated “V&A”, is a national art museum located in London, in the district of South Kensington. It is the world’s largest museum of applied and decorative arts and design, as well as sculpture, housing a permanent collection of more than 2.27 million objects. It was founded in 1852 and is named after Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. It is a fabulous museum to visit !!! The V & A covers 5 hectares and has 145 galleries. Its collection covers 5,000 years of art, from Antiquity to the present day, from cultures of Europe, North America, Asia and North Africa. The ceramic, glass, textiles, costumes, silverware, ironwork, jewellery, furniture, medieval objects, sculptures, prints and engravings, drawings and photographs are among the largest and most complete in the world. The museum notably has the largest collection of post-classical sculptures in the world, the collections of Italian Renaissance objects being the largest outside of Italy. The collections from East Asia are among the best in Europe, with particular strengths in ceramic and metalwork, while the Islamic collection is among the largest in the Western world.

The Renaissance Gallery bring together a vast collection of works from the Renaissance, offering an exceptional view of Europe . You will notably see Raphael’s famous Cartoons, commissioned in 1515 by Pope Leo X, which demonstrate the genius of the Italian Renaissance. Sculptures, illuminations, and liturgical treasures illustrate the artistic richness of this founding era. A must-see for contemplating European historical art. Ten galleries display display 1,800 objects from the rare medieval and renaissance collections in a roughly chronological progression.
The gallery Paul and Jill Ruddock is dedicated to the Renaissance 1350–1600, The Renaissance collections bring together masterpieces of northern and southern European art from the late 1400s to the early 1600s. Monumental sculptures, rich textiles and colourful ceramics show artists’ continued fascination with the art of the Roman world and the importance of the Christian church as patron. Highlights include the greatest collection of Italian Renaissance sculpture outside Italy, with pieces by Donatello, Andrea Briosco (‘il Riccio’) and Giambologna, as well as notebooks owned by Leonardo da Vinci. Richly-coloured stained glass from Northern Europe, rare carpets from Spain and a striking display of armour suggest the splendour and wealth of the period.

You get to the museum on the underground/metro/subway stations: South Kensington , Gloucester Road , and we came from our rental apartment in Earl’s Court by the station on line District ,Tower Hill to South Kensington station and short walk to museum.

I enjoyed my visit to the V&A with its wide variety of collections. It’s almost a shame that it’s free, as too many visitors come without much motivation. On the other hand, this allows you to return several times during a stay to explore different parts of the very vast museum.
