The Grand Trianon of Versailles, part VI !!!

I will take on again, the Grand Trianon on this post.  Of course, plenty more in my blog but just found older pictures on one of my cd roms ,that I like to show them for you and me. This is  a wonderful huge property, and about time tell you a bit more on it,  Versailles is it !!! can’t stop bragging lived here for 9+ wonderful years, Just for info, this wing of the Trianon Sous Bois is usually only accessible to conference or guided visits, Let me tell you again about the Grand Trianon of Versailles, part VI !!!Hope you enjoy this post as I.

The old “marble trianon” ,that will only be known as “Grand” when the Petit Trianon was built. Louis XIV will follow the advance of the work permanently. It was this Trianon castle, unlike the Palace of Versailles, who was for the Court, and Marly, who was for his friends, according to his own statements. This Grand Trianon, the only one in the castle to offer a real floor and not a mestol, offers a set of apartments that were first assigned to the royal family. Twenty years after its construction,Grand Trianon had become too small to house the whole family of Louis XIV. To satisfy the king, Jules Hardouin-Mansart, shortly before his death in 1708, built this wing of Trianon-sous-Bois whose sobriety and elegance announce the style of the 18C. This building body offers a set of apartments that were first assigned to the royal family. Trianon-sous-Bois is the northern wing of the Grand Trianon. Initially, was occupied by Madame Palatine, sister-in-law of King Louis XIV, and her family. It is made up, not a row of pieces as it was done at the time, but a corridor, garden side, serving all the rooms.

Versailles

Little busy in the 18C, the Grand Trianon did not really resumed life with Napoleon I, in 1805 first, then in 1810 when he decided to settle there with his new wife, Marie-Louise, Petite-Nièce of Marie-Antoinette. Under the July Monarchy, King Louis-Philippe settled there with all his family, creating in 1838 a vast family fair, and in 1845, a room for her daughter Louise-Marie, Queen of the Belgians. New furniture was then delivered, which constitute the last historical furnishings of the castle. Gradually transformed into a museum made up of heterogeneous objects, from the reign of Napoleon III, the Grand Trianon only found its castle character at the beginning of the 20C. As early as 1959, General de Gaulle thought of making Grand Trianon a presidential residence. Presidential guests residing in the Trianon-sous-Bois wing were among the heads of state welcomed, we also note the American presidential couple John and Jackie Kennedy, Queen Élisabeth II and Prince Philip, (anecdote she refuse to sleep in the bed of Napoleon) ; and the last being the Russian president Boris Yeltsine, in 1992.

Bureau of the most important play president in Trianon-sous-Bois, it is a larger too much of the wing. It is decorated with tapestries from the Gobelins factory according to the painter Coypel. The armchairs, in gilded wood, come from the castle of Saint-Cloud. The walls are stretched with green velvet.

It serves as a framework for the official reception of the French Republic, the presidential guests residing in the wing of the Trianon-sous-Bois. General de Gaulle transformed it, from 1963, into a presidential residence in order to receive the foreign hosts of France, and the castle was then fully restored and equipped with all modern comfort. In 1963, General de Gaulle had the inventory put back in place to make it a residence of the President of the Republic and his guests. He placed his office there, nicknamed “general’s office” the reception of personalities invited by the presidency or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs thus took place until 1992, and in 2009, these spaces were returned to the public establishment of castle/museum/domain of Versailles,

It was Louis-Philippe who transformed what was the old salon de Billard of Louis XIV into a chapel. The chapel has above the altar, a stained glass window produced by the Manufacture de Sèvres represents the assumption of the Virgin according to the painter Pierre-Paul Prud’hon. The columns that surround it come from the pavilions of the Domes Bosquet, destroyed under the Empire. It was in this chapel that Louis-Philippe’s Maria his second daughter, Princess Marie, married to Duke Alexandre de Wurtemberg on October 17, 1837.

There is a wonderful Salon d’attente or waiting room where guests will first come in and stay very little seen.

The same goes for the wonderful Salle à manger or dining room only for intimes guests of the king and again very little seen.

Other interesting rooms here in the Trianon sous Bois are : The Salon de famille du roi Louis-Philippe or King Family room Louis-Philippe was occupied by a game fair, on the right, and the first bedroom of Louis XIV, on the left, materialized by the painting of Houasse, Iris and Morpheus. The two pieces were gathered in 1838 by Louis-Philippe who gathered his family there.  Salle des Huissiers or Hall of the bailiffs, created during the work of 1963-1965. It serves as introductory parts to the presidential apartments of Trianon-sous-Bois. Two of its sides over the castle gardens. Salon du Deuxieme aide de camp or room of the second field aide This room serves as a office for the second assistant camp assistant the president of Gaulle. The woodwork decor from the show dates from the end of the reign of Louis XIV. Salon du premieur aide de camp or room of the first field aide as for the previous room, the decor dates from the time of Louis XIV. The armchairs are decorated with light gray velvet while the curtains with the windows are in garnet velvet made in 1966 ,also the Petit Salon or small living room.
