After the salle de Constantine, inaugurated in 1842, the decor of the Salle du Maroc and that of the Smalah was undertaken, whose projects were never fully carried out, brutally interrupted by the fall of the regime in February 1848. Under the Second Empire, (Napoléon III) ,the room of Morocco became the Crimean room, then Italy, while the intermediate rooms received other paintings in the history of the new reign. Once again, the project remained unfinished and forever. Today, African rooms are used for large temporary exhibitions in Versailles, and their large, protected paintings are mostly invisible (unless guided tour),
Horace Vernet was a 19C painter specializing in military subjects. He was director of the Academy of France in Rome and received the medal of honor during the Universal Exhibition in 1855., with which he had familiarity ties. Favorite of Napoleon I then of Louis-Philippe, the painter Horace Vernet, whose Château de Versailles has the most important collection of works, is revealed in a large retrospective. He halo the deceased emperor in 1821 of almost mystical glory In his immense Tombeau de Napoléon or tomb of Napoleon, representating him struck on a rock of Sainte-Hélène beaten by the waves. A year later, he was refused in the living room with tricolor cockroaches. He returned there in 1824 with a portrait of Charles X. But it was thanks to the support of the Duke of Orleans, Louis-Philippe, mounted on the throne of France with the monarchy of July 1830, that the painter will receive his letters from nobility. Listed and completed in his workshop in Versailles. Example with the famous « Prise de la Smala d’Abd-el-Kader » or takeover of the Smala of Abd-el-Kader by the Duke of Aumale in Taguin, May 16, 1843 , His travels inspired him with picturesque scenes as a young Algerian with a hawk or the lion hunt in the Sahara, Several paintings also attest to his dedication in the writing of the great novel of France such as Louis-Philippe left the Palais-Royal to go to the City Hall, July 31, 1830 or this other interior scene at the Hôtel de Ville or City hall ; remained unfinished.

Moving about in my road warrior mode I have come into a real find in my memorable City of Versailles, actually the Château de Versailles of many nice memories ,see my other posts on it, This is in my former Yvelines dept 78 of the Île de France region ,and my belle France. I have found me an odd picture in my cd rom vault that should be in my blog for you and me, This one is off the general public but saw on my friends of Versailles tours, Therefore, here is my take on the Château de Versailles, part XI !!! A salle Louis-Philippe room was dedicated to the exhibition of the numerous paintings commanded by the King. This room was then extended to a larger set: the rooms of Constantine, Morocco and Smalah. These rooms are not open to the free visit, More than thirteen centuries of history took place on the walls of the Château de Versailles. From this museum, dismantled at the beginning of the Third Republic, Versailles, however, has retained the best: the rooms of the Crusades and Africa in the North wing, the rooms of the Etés-Générals and the coronation in the central body, the gallery of Battles and the rooms of the Empire in the wing of the Midi.
