The beach and streets of Etretat !!!

Moving about in my road warrior mode I have come into more pictures in my cd rom vault that should be in my blog for you and me, This post is on more of the beach and streets of Etretat,do see my other post, Étretat is located in the Seine-Maritime department 76 in the Normandie region of my belle France. It is 16 km from Fécamp ,48 km from Saint-Valery-en-Caux, 45 km from Honfleur, 197 km from Versailles, and 424 km from my current home,We arrive by the D940 and parked at parking Place de Gaulle for free ! Therefore, here is my take on the beach and streets of Etretat !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The plage d’Etretat beach kisses the cliffs of downstream and upstream to the north on each side, while the village is located just behind. The laundresses also came to wash their laundry, taking advantage of the resurgence of an underground river, before laying clothes and household linen on the pebbles which were also collected as a building material.

The action of the waves contributes to the fall of the cliffs, dissolves chalk and polite the flint which turns into pebbles in a few months. Practically prisoners of the two obstacles that are the Porte d’Aval and the Porte d’Amont, the pebbles of Etretat are very rounded: these are the most blunt of the coast! The pebbles constitute an essential natural protection against swell and storms. They slow down the waves that hit Perrey, the dike of Etretat and limit the risks of marine submersion of the city, it is therefore prohibited, under penalty of fine, to pick them up.

The Place du Maréchal Foch is one of the main squares in the city center. There is a large concentration of bistros, bars and other creperies and some pretty terraces. Also don’t miss the halles,or covered market with their pretty wooden framework. Not far from the seafront, with its superb panorama on the cliffs on both sides, Place du Maréchal Foch is one of the main places in the city center, and one of our favorites Some pretty terraces where we like to linger. Do not miss the halles (covered market see post) also, with their pretty wooden frame. The street is name after Ferdinand Foch was a general, Marshal of France and member of the French Academy. He illustrated as a generalissime of the Allied forces on the Western Front during the Great War or WWI in 1918. Between 1914 and 1916, he was at the head of the 20th Army Corps, then an army and finally a group of armies. He participated in defensive battles, including the first battle of Ypres at the end of 1914, and offensive battles, the battle of Morhange in August 1914, the 2nd and the 3rd battle of Artois in 1915 then the Battle of the Somme in 1916 . Elevated to the dignity of Marshal of France in August 1918, he was elevated to those of Marshal of the United Kingdom in 1919 and Poland in 1923.

The rue des docteurs fidelin passes in from of the covered market or halles in a picturesque wooden houses street, see ,also, the fountain, The first doctor officially installed in Etretat was Adolphe Paul Charles Fidelin and treated -among others, the Maupassant family. Two of his children were doctors in turn: in 1883 Robert Adolphe Charles Fidelin was born, who owned, at 10 rue Notre-Dame (today today 10 bis), the villa La Chaufferette; he practiced in Étretat and died there in 1957. His brother Charles Michel Léon Fidelin was born in 1898; at 3 rue du Docteur Paul-Fidelin (formerly rue du Marché). It currently bears the name of rue des Docteurs Fidelin.

The Bd Président René Coty comes right out of the beach towards the City center, You have stores and restaurants here leading into the above and halles or covered market, also small quant hotels, the road is also the D39, The boulevard is name after René Coty, who was President of the French Republic from January 16, 1954 to January 8, 1959. Second and last president of the Fourth Republic, withdrawn from political life after his departure from the Élysée, he sat on the Constitutional Council until his death in 1962.
