I am taken you back to Paris, yes a never ending story, The eternal city never stop amazing me of its beauty and things to see even if worked in it for almost 10 years while visiting zillion times living nearby in Versailles, Once again, found me older pictures in one cd rom that should be in my blog, These are wondertful architecture gems glad to have them here for you and me. Therefore, here is my take on the Church Saint Serge de Radonège of Paris !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
The Church Saint-Serge de Radonège is located at 93 rue de Crimée,you go thru an iron grid ,after pushing it, a narrow driveway, a table and a few chairs that seem abandoned, an old garage and its barely readable bookstore brand. Welcome to one of the hidden treasures in Paris: the Russian Orthodox Church Saint-Serge de Radonège.

Originally the German Lutheran church, the church was confiscated during the Great War or WWI, and then sold by the French government. At the same time, Russian immigration to France experienced an unprecedented boom following the 1917 Russian revolution. Saint-Alexandre Nevsky Cathedral in the 17éme arrondissement, built to give migrants a place of worship worthy of the name , cannot accommodate all the faithful, and the working population of the 19éme arrondissement does not recognize themselves in this bourgeois district. The Orthodox community of Paris therefore decides to acquire a new church.
On July 18, 1924 – Day of the Feast of Saint Serge de Radonège , the church located a stone’s throw from the Buttes Chaumont park was bought at auction, then definitively devoted on March 1, 1925. It also acquired: a library containing more than 35 000 works, in various languages including Russian, French and Greek. A religious bookstore. The Institute of Orthodox Saint-Serge theology in Paris, unique of its kind for its teachings in French on orthodoxy. More than a simple church, it is a real flagship of Orthodox Russian thought in the West, it has formed hundreds of priests, bishops and theologians since the second half of the 20C.

To visit the church, Sunday – Office Day – is ideal. On other days, the interior is only visited if you are lucky enough to meet someone who agrees to open your doors to you, Serge de Radonège is a Saint Orthodox, one of the most popular saints in Russia. He was a great spiritual and monastic reformer, Thaumaturge and protector of medieval Russia.
