The town of La Ferté-Saint-Aubin is located in the dept of Loiret ,No, 45, in the Centre-Val de Loire region of my belle France. It is the town that occupies the largest area in the Loiret. The town was formed by the union of two villages, La Ferté further north, and Saint-Aubin further south. It is located 21 km from Orleans, 54 km from Blois, 58 km from Vierzon, 151 km from Versailles, and 426 km from my current house, It is crossed by seven departmental roads: RD 2020 (old N20), RD 921, RD 922, and RD 17, 18, 61 and 168.
The Church Saint-Aubin with a nice bell tower dates from the 15C ; this belltower sits majestic, at the top of a sort of promontory overlooking the city and of pre-Romanesque origins (11C), dressed and transformed in the 16C. The flat-bottomed choir was able to replace a semi-circular apse. The entrance vault is 1742; A rose was dismantled in the middle of the 19C. The Lambris nave of the 18C was restored in the 20C. The stained glass windows of the western facade, the choir and the nave were produced in 1899. Those of the southern nave were destroyed by the bombings of June 15 and 16, 1940. Although it is not open to the public, you can admire the exterior architecture. Do not hesitate to contact the parish group or association to have the chance to visit it!

Maison Solognote 14 rue Masséna, La Ferté Saint Aubin, From the Gauls, in a country without stones, the houses were made of wood and torchis (clay, straw or chopped heather), covered with thatched, rye or reeds. From the 15-16C, the walls were made of oak wood sections with a filling of cob, From the 17C, the wooden sides were modified, the doves form rectangles with, below and at the top , sand pits with a smooth upwards, all reinforced by scarves. From 1850-1880, the houses with wooden sides were replaced by fully more healthy and better protected brick dwellings.
Other things to see here , me think, are : The city has a certain number of private castles, all dating from the 19C and having essentially served as a hunting relay The city center has some beautiful half-timbered houses typical of Solognote architecture, especially in rue Saint-Michel, The Saint-Michel Church has a choir dating from the 11C or 12C, and was rebuilt and enlarged in the 17C with the chapels of the Sainte-Virge and Saint-Loup, the bell tower houses three bells, The halle aux grains or grain hall,built in 1869, it replaced an old hall located in the old St-Michel district. On that date replace an older hall located in the old neighborhood of Saint-Michel.
A bit of history tell us taht between January 29 and February 8, 1939, more than 2,800 Spanish refugees fleeing the collapse of the Spanish Republic in the Spanish Civil War arrived in the Loiret. Faced with the insufficiency of the reception structures of Orleans, 46 rural reception centers were open, one of which was in La Ferté-Saint-Aubin, There is the Memorial Bellefontaine, at the northern entrance to the town on the D2020, recalls the presence of resistance maquis in Sologne, victims of the repression of the Nazi occupants at the end of WWII, in particular the massacre of 41 high school students from the Franc Liberté by the farm du By ,located near the pond du By.
