The Donjon and Logis Royal of Loches !!!

We were back on my road warrior trails in the Loire valley, and this was a must stop again from home on the N165 , A11 , A85 on exit 11 to the D31 to D764 to D760 and our parking at place de Verdun,and we started our tour after the church,the cité royale!  Loches is located in the Indre-et-Loire department 37, in the Centre-Val de Loire region of my belle France, Therefore, let me tell you more on the Donjon and Logis Royal of Loches !!! The Logis Royal or Royal Lodge was built on the tip of the rocky spur overlooking the Indre Valley, the royal lodge was one of the favorite residences of the Valois during the Hundred Years’ War. It was built in two stages between the end of the 14C and the end of the 15C. The oldest part, to the south, is decorated with four turrets that are more decorative than defensive. The second part, built a century later in the northern extension, has a flamboyant Gothic style. Three female figures have left their mark there: Joan of Arc, Agnès Sorel and Anne of Brittany.

The Donjon or Keep remarkable for its dimensions of 36 meters high and its excellent state of preservation, the Romanesque keep was built by Foulques Nerra, Count of Anjou, around the year 1000. It is one of the oldest keeps still preserved in Europe. This 11C tower was reinforced by numerous defensive constructions until the 13C, then administrative and prison constructions in the 15C. The site was transformed into a royal prison by Louis XI. It houses the dungeons of Philippe de Commynes , Cardinal Balue and the Duke of Milan Ludovico Sforza, who painted murals during his detention. A scenographic tour for young and old allows an attractive and fun discovery of the place. The visit of the dungeon is also offered with the HistoPad to discover 3D reconstructions of the monument using a touchscreen tablet.

Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
