The old Cloister of the Cathedral of Albi !!

And I give you Albi , a must city to visit in my belle France, A city not really seen well by visitors, sort of like an off the beaten path spot. Of course, this is in the Tarn dept 81 of the Occitanie region, a vibrant reminder of daily life in all towns, I like to update this post mixed in with other with new text and links for you and me. Therefore, here is my take on the old Cloister of the Cathedral of Albi !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I. albi-old-cloister-fountain-behind-the-cathedral-area-jul10 A wonderful spot seldom visited because it is all the back of the Sainte Cécile Cathedral are the remnants of the old Cloister of the Cathedral. Nice architecture  This is an off the beaten path site that is worth the detour, me think,  The current Sainte Cécile Cathedral (see post) is preceded by several churches. The first dates from the 4C and was destroyed in 666 or 667 by a fire. A second appears in the texts in 920 under the name of Sainte Cécile, the patron saint of musicians. At that time, an episcopal ensemble includes the cathedral, but also a baptistery and a chapel dedicated to Saint-Pierre. Some arches of the old Romanesque cloister remain from this period, several times displaced after having remained in the Rochegude park for a long time and placed in the 2010s between the Cathedral and the Castelviel district. Other elements of Romanesque architecture are located between the current buildings of the cathedral and the Berbie palace, not visible from public places. albi-old-cloister-fountain-roman-baths-now-tarn-river-recevoir-beh-cat-jul10 Before the Cathédrale Sainte-Cécile, there was a church. From the 4C to the 13C, between the current cathedral and the Palais de la Berbie, there were inhabitants, religious, who worked. It was a very important place until the 13C, which was deeply revamped with the wars of religion, The trace of an old Romanesque cloister, at place de la Trébaille, the three stone arches now installed very close to their implantation of origin (a private house now), or a part of the southern and north portals today included in a private home. The archives of the cathedral were sadly burned who else, the French revolution, Thanks to the friendly collaboration of the owners of these houses, some trace have been found.
