This is Pierrefonds !!!

Once again looking back into my vault found me older paper pictures that should be in my blog, after all, this is my life’s history ! This is on historical Pierrefonds, a wonderful city in to visit anytime. There are some nice monuments here that should be visited, too many need to be back, eventually, Again, I take this opportunity to offer me and you this new post. Therefore, here is my take on this is Pierrefonds !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I The town of Pierrefonds is located in the department no 60 of Oise in the Hauts-de-France region of my belle France. It is on the edge of the Compiègne forest, and mainly known for its castle of Pierrefonds, restored by Viollet-le-Duc. The town is 80 km from Paris , 15 km from Compiègne, 100 km from Versailles, and 562 km from my house.  Pierrefonds is served by the interurban network of the Oise, in particular via line 656: Morienval – Crépy en Valois – Compiègne, Also, long trip of over 2 hrs you can reach Paris by bus and train (gare du nord), Never done it, By the road ,we have gone from Versailles on the N184 direction Chantilly then passing Senlis took the A1 then the D973 dir Compiègne and follow dir Pierrefonds, From Paris A1 exit/sortie 9 towards the D85 by the La Croix Saint Ouen then right on rue Jules Michelet or D335 to Pierrefonds, Not done it yet from the Morbihan breton, One reason to come here is the château de Pierrefonds castle, located at rue Viollet-le-Duc, A castle exists in Pierrefonds at the latest towards the middle of the 12C, This castle was replaced by a larger construction under Louis of Orleans from 1393. In 1616, it belongs to Duke François-Annibal d’Estrées, opposing the accession to power of Louis XIII. Richelieu had Pierrefonds castle besieged until 1617. The castle was taken and dismantled on the orders of the new king, then falls into ruins. Napoleon I was interested in it and bought it in 1810, but it was not until the Second Empire and the year 1857 to see its restoration to start under the initiative of Napoleon III. He entrusted the works to the architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, which goes beyond historical realities and creates a new castle reflecting his own vision of the Middle Ages. It is ultimately open as a museum under the Third Republic. Of impressive dimensions, the castle occupies the shape of a pentagon on the ground and is flanked by eight towers, whose dungeon with the body of building adjoining the west. The chapel occupies the interior of the eastern tower. The west, the north and the northeast of the interior courtyard are occupied by buildings housing barracks, and especially thesalle des Preux room on the first floor, and the salle des Gardes or guard’s room on the ground floor of the western wing. The basement houses a collection of reproductions of funeral sculptures called Le Bal des Gisants or danse of decease,,. While the outside of the castle displays a military architecture influenced by the Gothic style, the Renaissance dominates the facades oriented towards the courtyard and a large part of the rooms. The finishes and the sculpture have been the subject of special care, but the castle has never been furnished, and has always been a museum. Pierrefonds lake petit train and castle high back Some other monuments to see here are the Saint-Sulpice Church, rue Louis-d’Orléans in Gothic style, it associates a choir with two collaterals of the 13C with a double flamboyant nave from the end of the Middle Ages. The church is however of much older origin than the Gothic parts suggest it, The former Pierrefonds train station, allée des Tilleuls on the old line of Rethondes at La Ferté-Milon, section of a route to connect Amiens in Dijon. The new Pierrefonds-les-Bains train station is inaugurated the January 24, 1884, and contributed to the increasing tourist attendance of the site, in particular thanks to the presence of the castle of Pierrefonds and the thermal establishment. The line was closed to passenger traffic on February 25, 1940. The nurses monument, Place de l’Hotel-de-Ville: it is dedicated to nurses who died on the battlefields during the Great War or WWI, and more particularly to Élisabeth Jalaguier, arrived in Pierrefonds in 1918 and deadly touched by three shell months before the armistice. Posthumously raised to the rank of knight of the Legion of Honor by Georges Clemenceau in 1919, a doctor and a nurse decided to pay tribute to her by a monument  and organize a subscription in 1933. A committee chaired by President Albert Lebrun is formed, but the monument was not erected until 1955 and was bought by the town in 1996, The old thermal establishment, rue Louis-d’Orléans: after the discovery of sulphurous sources by Mr. Deflubé in his garden in 1846, and the recognition of the virtues of water to relieve diseases of the respiratory organs, joint pain and diseases of the skin, it transforms its property into thermal establishment. It includes the Hôtel des Bains and a care center, offering baths and showers and respiratory inhalations, The Charles-Quentin Institute, rue Louis-d’Orléans: this private high school of general and agricultural education has a large bourgeois house with the appearance of a castle dating from 1865, drawn by Viollet-le-Duc. It is surrounded by an English garden of 13 ha in a beautiful landscaped setting with a view of the castle, comprising a botanical garden and a arboretum of around sixty varieties open for walking. Several thematic gardens have been added to it: a priest garden, a shadow garden, an educational vegetable garden and a garden of Mediterranean inspiration. A bit of history I like tell us that in the 10C, the old castle was destroyed. The new castle is built further west near the forest on a mound. The village moved to its foot, Pierrefonds was the capital of the largest of the six châtellenies of the Duchy of Valois. King Louis XIII disputed in 1616 a special body commanded by Charles de Valois to besiege Pierrefonds, then Cardinal Richelieu asks the destruction of the castle The village, which has become a city of waters under the name of Pierrefonds-les-Bains, experienced a strong enthusiasm in the Second Empire, with the restoration of the castle, and at the beginning of the Third Republic with the construction of the railway station. The village was , also known, at the beginning of the 20C, for its production of sandstone pottery and their remarkable glazes with starry crystallizations. Manufacturing, started in 1903, ceased in 1986. The pieces remain highly sought after by collectors.
