I have written before on many things in Paris and sometimes I found me new things not yet in my blog that should be, This is the case lately of finding old paper pictures in my vault , and Paris is a huge part of it. I have written on many streets of Paris ; this is another nice one to walk over it at least once in your lifetime, Therefore, here is my take on the Place d’Iéna of Paris, part I !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
The Place d’Iéna is located in the 16éme arrondissement of Paris ; and at the intersection of the avenues of Jena and the President-Wilson and at the outlet of avenue Pierre-ier-de-Serbie and the rue Boissière and rue Longchamp. It bears the name of the Napoleonic victory of October 14, 1806 in the Battle of Jena between France and Prussia at Jena Germany, The square was created in 1858 and took its current name in 1878.
Some of the interesting things to see here , me think are the Palais d’Iéna, whose rotunda opens on the Place d’Iéna, The building was built, between 1937 and 1946, by Auguste Perret, which used a colorful and shortbread concrete allowing to mitigate aging. Originally occupied by the old public works museum housing, after the Paris Liberation, by the Assembly of the French Union ; it has been occupied, since 1959, by the Economic and Social Council. (CESE), This is the third assembly provided for by the 1958 Constitution, its role is only advisory, issuing opinions on economic and social problems, it includes 231 members. At No. 5: view, masked by the building bordering the square, is a 1,800 m2 mansion built and inhabited in its time by Gustave Eiffel, then by the Princes Léon (1907), Constantine (1917) and Dominique Radziwill (1925). In 1919, the United States Embassy, previously located at 14, avenue d’Eylau, was transferred to this address. In 1922, the mansion was bought by the ambassador himself, At No 6: National Museum of Asian Arts-Guimet, inaugurated in 1889. The museum presents art collections from the countries of Southeast Asia, the Indian Ocean and Chinese ceramics. The neoclassical style building was built in 1885, it includes a rotunda completed by two wings.
The equestrian statue of George Washington, in bronze, of the first President of the United States, it was offered to France by a committee of American women, and was inaugurated on July 3, 1900. On the pedestal, we can read the following dedication: “Offered by the women of the United States of America in memory of the fraternal aid given by France to their fathers during the struggle for independence.”
The place d’Iéna is serve by the metro station Iéna of line 9, There is also, a nice parking I have used at parking Trocadéro – Jena 11 rue de Magdebourg.
