The Rotunda in Parc Monceau of Paris !!!

This one is a delight to tell you on a post of its own for you and me; one of the nostalgic parks of my eternal Paris. I always like to tell first came here in 2004 with local friends who wanted to ride a bike ! and later on came back to tried the Vélib ! Only time in Paris for me lol ! Anyway, I like to tell you a bit more on the Rotunda in Parc Monceau of Paris !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The parc Monceau is a treasure in Paris, not the biggest, not the most known, but a wonderful collection of follies, great architecture in and out on the mansions that surrounded it and two good museums. I have come to name it my top 3 parks of Paris!

A bit of history tell us that in 1785, it was decided to surround Paris by a wall intended to fight against smuggling: the wall of farmers general, which was dotted with buildings which hosted the offices of them. The rotunda that can be observed today at the entrance to Parc Monceau was done in 1787 ,and is one of the last preserved among the 61 that the wall counted.

In 1860 The City of Paris purchased the Parc Monceau and 1861 saw Baron Haussmann got to work, transforming the park to make it even more luxurious and suited to the City. Alleyways were widened and paved to make the park more accessible for grand horse carriages, and an ornate 8.3 meters fence was installed the perimeter of the park to make it more secure. To this day the nine gated park entries are monitored by a fifth-generation park watchman who lives above the rotunda, very handy for the six private residences lining this park whose residents have 24-hour access to the park. The Rotunda has on the lower floor was once used as a customs house, while the upper floor was an apartment with a view of the garden reserved for the Duke.

The old Chartres Rotunda barrier was installed at the entrance to Parc Monceau on the current Place de la République-Dominicaine. It was located 780 meters from the Monceau barrier located to the east and 600 meters from the Courcelles barrier located to the west.  It is a very pretty rotunda, surmounted by a dome; It is is a located towards the middle of the garden and bears the name of the Duke of Chartres, who later became Duke of Orleans, who had this garden planted.

You can come here by metro  Monceau Line 2. The unique entrance with crested entourage done by Héctor Guimard is located on line 2 line direction Porte Dauphine-Nation at  Boulevard de Courcelles  on the edge of the Parc Monceau. The park is in neighborhood or quartier Europe in the 8éme arrondissement or district of Paris. Bus line 30 also takes you here, and took it too later on from Place d’Etoile (Arch de Triomphe) on the Avenue de Wagram side dir Pigalle and stop at Monceau.  I have, of course come here by car at parking Villiers.
