The Salon de Venus of the Château de Versailles !!!

In my dear gorgeous Versailles ; there are many places other than the castle. The city needs to be seen more, my kind of town, actually did lived there for 9+ glorious years! Very nice family memories. I found me older paper pictures that again should be in my blog, Walk it back way back and see natural beauty of the once Domaine de Versailles ! Therefore, here is my take again on the salon de Venus of the Château de Versailles !!!Hope you enjoy the post as I

Thanks to king of the French Louis Philippe I that seeing history goes to nothing, had the brilliant idea of converting it into a museum! as he said, FOR THE GLORY OF FRANCE, So in 1837, the castle became the museum, and the story began for all of us. I got caught up in this museum magna, the most beautiful of them all. A bit of stories, compiled from my time as living there and Friends of the Castle.

The Grand Appartement du roi or the State Apartment of the king is a prestigious row of seven salons that was to serve as a parade apartment, that is to say as a setting for the official acts of the sovereign. This is why it received a decoration of remarkable wealth, according to the Italian model then very popular with the king: paneling of marble and painted ceilings. During the day, the Grand Appartement was open to everyone and everyone could see the king and the royal family pass there which crossed it every day to go to the chapel. Under Louis XIV, it was the framework of apartment evenings that took place several times a week.

Going by the stair of ambassadors you reach the salon de Venus done between 1677 and 1680 that when the times of Louis XIV wa the entrance to the grand appartements du roi, the most baroque part done by Le Brun, On the ceiling see the goddes of Love, Venus This room takes its name from a planet, theme linked to the solar myth that inspired the whole decor of Versailles in the 1670s. Here, Venus is represented in the ceiling in the features of the goddess of love which, in Greek antiquity, was associated with this planet. The other painted compositions, which adorn the tilted ties of the vault., represent great men or ancient heroes whose actions, inspired by the divinity of the place, often offer more or less transparent allusions to the actions of Louis XIV itself. Thus, the arrangement, representing Alexander marrying Roxane evokes the king’s marriage, while that showing the Augustus emperor presiding over to the circus games alluded to the carousel of 1662 given in honor of Queen Marie-Thérèse. From the whole row, the Salon de Venus presents the most baroque decor. It is the only place where Le Brun has made architectures, sculptures and paintings dialogue, sometimes real and sometimes feints: the pilasters and marble columns are taken up in the perspectives painted by Jacques Rousseau, and two statues in trompe-l’oeil on the window side, respond to the figure of Louis XIV. On apartment evenings, tables covered with flowers , pyramids of fresh and rare fruits were erected in the living room, as well as candied fruit and mass pulp of almond paste.
