The cabinets of the Château de Versailles !!!

In my dear gorgeous Versailles ; there are many places other than the castle. The city needs to be seen more, my kind of town, actually did lived there for 9+ glorious years! Very nice family memories. I found me older paper pictures that again should be in my blog, Walk it back way back and see natural beauty of the once Domaine de Versailles ! Therefore, here is my take again on the cabinets of the Château de Versailles !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I

Thanks to king of the French Louis Philippe I that seeing history goes to nothing, had the brilliant idea of converting it into a museum! as he said, FOR THE GLORY OF FRANCE, So in 1837, the castle became the museum, and the story began for all of us. I got caught up in this museum magna, the most beautiful of them all. A bit of stories, compiled from my time as living there and Friends of the Castle.

The Cabinet Dorée or golden cabinet was created for Marie Leszczynska in 1735, this piece was modified several times by Marie-Antoinette. Its current aspect dates from the last transformation in 1784. Deleting the silk that handled the room so far, it offered a more modern decoration of woodwork and treated in the ancient style put in fashion, between others, by the recent discovery of the remains of Pompeii and Herculanum. Most of the furniture and works of art there today belonged to the sovereign: the chest of drawers and this database in the collections database., One of the most beautiful creations of Riesener, delivered for her room in Marly; The “Chinese” Sèvres vases from its Saint-Cloud apartment. This Cabinet Dorée, thus called due to the profusion of the golds of the woodwork, bronzes, seats opens with a small door located to the left of the fireplace on a small cabinet whose colored painting in Martin varnish dates from years 1750. It was the only original testimony of the vogue that this process then wanted to imitate China lacquer. Its woodwork comes from a backpack from Marie-Josèphe de Saxe’s apartment located on the ground floor; It was Marie-Antoinette herself who brought up this decor created for her mother-in-law.

The cabinet intérieur du Roi or the King’s interior cabinet or the corner cabinet as it was commonly called, enjoys a double exposure on the marble courtyard and on the royal court. Louis XV was willing to be there and it was his balcony that he attended, tears in his eyes, departing from the funeral convoy carrying Madame de Pompadour, a winter evening of 1764. Although several times revamped under his reign , the decor of woodwork remains one of the most beautiful works in 1753. You can see the furniture delivered for the queen , notably the secretary to cylinder as was Louis XV office in 1760. This is the first piece of furniture of this type, which responded to the king’s wish to be able to leave his papers on his desk out of sight. Remarkable by the beauty of its marquetry paintings and bronzes, it is also a marvel of mechanics: a single quarter of the key allows you to release or block, both the lock of the cylinder and all the drawers. In 1778, Louis XVI had the remarkable mahogany round table placed. Marie-Antoinette was most often withdrawing to receive her children and friends, to play music or to pose in front of Mme Vigée-Lebrun, her favorite painter. Original created for Marie Leszczinska, this piece was redecorated in 1783 according to the drawings of Richard Mique, the architect of Marie-Antoinette. The woodwork of the Rousseau brothers, decorated with sphinxes and ancient tripods, recall the recent discovery of Pompeii and Herculanum. Most of the furniture and works of art there today belonged to the sovereign: so it is, for example, the dresser, one of the most beautiful creations of Riesener, delivered for her room to Marly , or “Chinese” Sèvres vases, which overcome it, coming from her apartment in Saint-Cloud.

I will include the library of Louix XVI on this post , fitting as also is a work or resting place.

The Bibliothèque de Louis XVI or the Library of Louis XVI is located in the small apartment of the King, on the first floor of the main building of the Palace of Versailles. The room measures 9.57 × 7.54 meters, under a ceiling height of 5.27 meters. It communicates with the pièce de la vaisselle d’or or the room of golden dishes and with the salle à manger aux salles neuves or dining room with new rooms, and overlooks the royal courtyard. The site of the library corresponds to the old chamber of Madame Adélaïde built by Louis XV. This piece was the first order of Louis XVI, who entrusted his realization to the architect Ange-Jacques Gabriel in 1774. In 1778 he had a mahogany table in Sainte-Lucie, as well as a dresser four years later, It is the only room in the Petits Appartements or small apartments that the unfortunate monarch substantially altered after he came to the throne.  Otherwise, he left his grandfather Louis XV’s rooms more or less as he found them. Consequently, this library is also the only room in the Private Apartments that is decorated in the neo-classical style to which Louis XVI has given his name, The rounded corners of the room are relieved with drops representing the great diversity of subject-matter in the Library shelves globe, telescope, Roman sword, shepherd’s hat, books, which vary from the Henriade to the works of Bossuet, and the masks of Comedy and Tragedy, all joined together by a network of flowers and ribbons.  The greatness of France in the world of art and letters was a fitting subject for the symbolism of Versailles, and Louis XVI peopled his library with Sèvres statuettes of the great authors of his country such as La Fontaine, La Bruyère, Racine, Boileau, etc,
