I came to discover this pretty area for the first time on a business conference, only way. I seldom come down here unless is business, but is so well known and hordes of chic tourists go there that has never been my fancy. However, I did go and was gladly satisfied by the scenary and the driving l! I am creating a new post with older pics and new links for you and me, Let me tell you about this is Monaco !!! The Principality of Monaco is a state made up of a single city of the same name, which makes it a city-state. It is about 20 km from Nice, and 8 km from Menton. It is surrounded by the French towns of Cap-d’Ail, Beausoleil, Roquebrune-Cap-Martin and La Turbie. Its territory extends over a strip of land of 4,100 meters along the Mediterranean Sea and its width varies from 350 to 1,050 meters. Its area is 202 hectares (2.02 km2). Which makes it, the second smallest independent state in the world (after the Vatican).

Monaco is divided into nine districts ,these are the La Condamine ,Fontvieille, Larvotto,Jardin exotique, Monaco-Ville, Les Moneghetti, Monte-Carlo ,Ravin de Sainte-Dévote and La Rousse, Within its territory, there are two pleasure ports ; these are the port Hercule ,the most important in terms of reception capacity with 700 mooring places. The second is the port of Fontvieille with 275 mooring places. The Monaco-Monte-Carlo underground SNCF train station, offers a daily TGV service for Paris, and up to ten other cities, via the station near Nice-Ville, located on the Marseille-Vintimille line, also offering TGVs and intercités to all of France and the Europe, The Héliport de Monaco, located on the dike in the Fontvieille district, notably desserts Nice-Cote d’Azur International Airport , The French A500 highway joins the moyenne cornice or D6007, and enters the Principality at the height of the Jardin Exotique or exotic garden,

Some of the things to see here , me think are the Monaco Grand Prix Automobile in Formula 1; the Monte-Carlo rally in WRC, Casino de Monte-Carlo; Hôtel de Paris (Monte-Carlo); Hotel Hermitage (Monte-Carlo); Exotic garden of Monaco, Opera of Monte-Carlo; Palais Princer; Notre-Dame-Immaculée Cathedral, avenue Saint-Martin; Chapel of the Mercy of Monaco,Place de la Mairie; Museum of Prehistoric Anthropology of Monaco; Monaco automotive museum: collection of vintage cars of the Prince of Monaco; and the Monaco oceanographic museum.

However , my brief incursion on my road warrior Avis rental car took me to the Riviera Marriott Hotel La Porte de Monaco in the port de Cap d’Ail right by the harbor on avenue du port. Wonderful views over the harbor , and city including Monaco from my room in 5th floor. (see post) , The best part and actual touching base in Monaco was at night , when I was taken by some friends over to Monaco to find a place for dinner. We were recommended the Restaurant Amici Miei at 42 Quai Jean Charles Rey, in the harbor of Fontvieille facing the cliffs and on top the Prince of Monaco’s castle; lovely.  This is an Italian restaurant cook by mamma herself and husband serves you with all the dishes explanation. This is so small and driving even smaller when going around was not sure if was in France or Monaco ! One time going around was stop by the police border patrol that was base in around a trafic circle and ask for paper id !! Well they were very nice just took a look and off I went again, in circles lol !!!

A brief history I like tell us that originally, the territory was under the Republic of Genoa, of which the Grimaldi were one of the patrician families. Relatively autonomous since 1297, a Franco-Monégasque treaty assured its sovereignty in 1861. The principality has become a constitutional monarchy in 1911. Since 2005, the sovereign prince is Albert II of Monaco of the Grimaldi who, if we based on the traditional agnatic definition of the prevailing house, is one of the oldest riding dynasties in the world (the Principality of Monaco went to the family of Goyon de Matignon in 1731 and then to the Polignac family in 1949).
