The whole City is wonderful ,and one of its magic in the city is the Notre Dame Church, Its time for me to tell you about it with old paper pictures just found in my vault and should be in my blog, Of course, Bordeaux is in the Gironde dept 33 of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of my belle France, Therefore, I like to tell you a bit on the Notre Dame Church of Bordeaux !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Church Notre Dame of Bordeaux was built in a baroque style at the end of the 17C, and located at Place du Chapelet in the current rue Mably. It was completely renovated in 1982 , discovering the original blonde stone. The Dominican community thrives and decides to rebuild a large convent, with two cloisters (the only remaining is the current Cour Mably). A spacious church will be built there, name after Saint-Dominique ,in 1802 after the Concordat it was change to Notre Dame. The church was built from 1684 on land that the Jacobins had just acquired. The construction was completed in 1707, the date registered on the keystone of the chapel. In the fall of 1793, during the policy of dechristianization of the French revolution, the Notre-Dame Church was transformed into a temple of reason, then dedicated to the worship of the supreme being established by Robespierre.
The facade of the Notre Dame Church, is baroque, of Jesuit style, represents in particular the Virgin giving the Rosary to Saint Dominique; this rosary presentation gave its name to the square which adjoins the church. On each side of the facade, four statues of the first doctors of the church : Ambroise, Augustin, Jérôme, and Grégoire le Grand, were installed in four niches that have remained empty in 1865 , Above, in the medallions, are four popes of the Dominican order. Inside the church, one enters a large 60 -meter long nave, with cradle -decorated windows with very beautiful stained glass windows. Its seven large oval arcades are surmounted by a very protruding cornice that goes around the church. Behind the altar, the frescoes of the apse, of 1834, represent scenes from the life of Notre-Dame such as presentation in the temple, death of Jesus, and visitation. The two largest chapels, to the right and left of the altar, have two magnificent altarpieces characteristic of the time. On the left, in the Notre-Dame du Rosary Chapel, also Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, the altarpiece highlights a statue from the Virgin to the Child and paintings of Saint Pius V, Dominican Pope who implemented the reforms of the Council of Trente, represented in prayer during the battle of Lepante, where the West prevailed over the Turks. Holy Rose of Lima, young Dominican saint of Peru. The Virgin entrusts her child to him.
One of the two original cloisters is the Cour Mably built in 1684 was the second jacobins convent. The first was destroyed in 1678. From 1797 to 1885 it was occupied by military handling. It was in 1790 that his notoriety exploded with the arrival of the Société des Amis de la Constitution, formed by the Girondins. Eventually National property in 1793 during the French revolution, the Cour Mably was then given to the city by the State in 1803. It housed the Museum of Antiquities from 1887 and the Bordeaux Municipal Library between 1891 and 1991. Today it is the Regional Chamber of the Court of Auditors which is installed in the Cours Mably in buildings that have been completely rehabilitated since September 1994. The Cour Mably and its chapter room host temporary exhibitions (thematic exhibitions, paintings, sculptures, photographs, drawings, etc.) and cultural events of all kinds (Concerts, conferences, artistic activities, etc.).
In 1707, an organ, built for the old Dominican chapel, was transferred to the gallery of the new chapel. In 1785, the Dominicans commissioned a new one. The buffet, in walnut and oak, is decorated with musicians and dominated by the great statues of David (musician of King Saul) and Saint Cécile (patron saint of musicians) dated 1785. The Notre Dame Church has remarkable acoustics, hence the high number of concerts organized in it.
