This whole Mont Saint Michel is the most visited place in Normandy and rightfully so even with the hordes of tourists nowdays. I like to tell you about other small good enjoyable family places that require even less efforts in climbing and you can see all of them in one day! These were in one post and I decided to give them their own so deserving me think, Let me tell you about the Historical Museum sound, lights and dungeons of Mont Saint Michel !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

We visit to the Musée historique, son et lumiére, cachots or historical museum of sound and light and dungeons. A collection of old weapons ,medieval instruments of torture ,body suckdown into the quicksands, Louis XI iron cage, and 35 wax figures. It shows that Raspail was imprisoned here and eventually a senator in Paris (you know the blvd Raspail)!

The Historical Museum tells 1,300 years of history of Mont-Saint-Michel and the building monks. It talks about works, objects and legendary pieces like, for example, dungeons or forgetfulness. A collection of paintings painted by Benedictine monks from the 15C to the 17C, but also instruments of torture of the time were sheltered by the historical museum. You can admire ivory, bones or mother -of -pearl sculpted and engraved in the Age of Enlightenment.

In the 18C and 19C, wax, wood or even porcelain dolls replaced the parades of models that we know today. Fashion trends propagated thanks to the exposure of these dolls in the window. Finally, the different styles of watches were also very fashionable. So take the time to discern all the finesse and thoroughness of the watchmaking know-how at the beginning of the 19C As you go along, you will see a reconstruction of the dungeons of yesteryear as well as wax figures representing the monk builders. Linger over the splendid collection of ancient objects, from torture instruments to the watches of the nobles. The tour ends at the 19C periscope with a panoramic view of the sea and the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel.

A bit of briefs on the tour, First down a narrow staircase lined with cardboard and into a long room lined with an old fashioned cabinets of curiosities. Hundreds of watch parts are displayed in neat rows, like the spoils of a tidy minded pickpocket. Past the dried rat is a small lobby and a group of statues, one the figure of a man sinking in quicksand created in 1909. At one end a shed houses the periscope , then through a small door we edged down steps into a dark space. Around us spotlights flashed on and off highlighting wax figures dressed as people from history. Mont Saint-Michel was for many years a prison housing up to 600 inmates in horrible conditions. This is represented by tableau of wax figures briefly explained in a few languages. Two very smart wax gentlemen illustrate ‘workshops of the prison’. Then we saw the monks. Possibly some of the most terrifying wax figures we have ever seen The next and final room says it contains ‘fragments of furniture.
