And I have to come back to my Versailles, always will be there for me, My memorable moments here are endless, if Paris is worth a Republic, Versailles is worth a Kingdom ! This is Versailles where we spent 9+ years of our lives in France and keep many nice memorable moments. We have re visited and have several, many posts on it in my blog. However, I found me new pictures from special trips with the Friends of Versailles which I am a member since 2004. These are wonderful spots of the Château de Versailles, part IV !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.
The story goes that in 1666, three sculpted groups were commissioned to take place in the lower part of a water tower, converted from the previous year into an artificial cave, the Grotto of Tethys. The latter was destroyed in 1684, prior to the construction of the north wing of the Palace of Versailles. In 1704, the three groups were settled in the “Bosquet de la Renommée”, which occupied the northeast corner of the current grove and took the name of “Bosquet des Bains d’Apollon” ,not to be confused with the present one.
The current Bosquet Des Bains D’Apollon dates from the reign of Louis XVI, laid out between 1778 and 1781. Its center is occupied by a lake dominated by a huge artificial rock embellished with waterfalls and hollowed out with a cave. This hosts the sculptures of the Horses of the Sun placed on either side of the group of Apollo served by the nymphs, produced from 1778.. This is the third Grove of the Baths of Apollo to bear this name in Versailles. It occupies the site of the bosquet du Marais (which became the second bosquet des Bains d’Apollon) .The distribution of figures in the central group of Apollo served by the nymphs was upset by the inversion of the two nymphs in the background and by the relative setting aside of the nymph carrying the tray. Above all, by a real deconstruction of the group, the terraces of the seven figures, now individualized, were arranged at different heights. The groups of the Horses of the Sun were also mistreated, due in particular to the arrangement at different heights of the terraces of the constituent elements of each of the groups. In addition, for the first time since 1705, that of the Marsy brothers found itself entirely in the open air, without any protection.

The ultimate masterpiece of Versailles royal art executed on the eve of the French revolution, the Cabinet de Garde-robe is one of the rare large-scale alterations undertaken by Louis XVI in the private apartment. Louis XVI’s wardrobe, clad in sculpted woodwork and crowned by an architectural cornice, is exceptional in its extreme refinement. In a neo-classical register, the sculpted and gilded decorations represent the major areas of government: commerce, agriculture, the navy, war, science and the arts. It is, in fact, a place devoted to work, a sort of back office more intimate than the corner office. Restored in 2009 with the support of Lady Michelham of Hellingly through the Société des Amis de Versailles (the Friends of Versailles).

The Cabinet de Garde-robe or Louis XVI’s wardrobe is located in the Petit appartement du Roi, on the first floor (2fl US) of the main building of the Palace of Versailles. The room communicates to the east with Louis XV’s bedroom. The alcove of this one gives access to the cabinet by a door concealed under hangings. Main element of the decor of this small room, the delicate woodwork is due to the chisel of Antoine Rousseau. They date from 1788 and cover the sciences, arts, warfare, the navy, agriculture and commerce.
