Ok, a market and a theater at Pontivy!

There is always pleasant to be here, on Napoleonville now Pontivy and even one of my sons worked here for a while and of course we have visited the town several times, more to come, stay tune. The folly or off the beaten path event here which i think is unique, is that in the same building you have a covered food market and a Theater!!! Yes this is Pontivy in the Morbihan dept 56 of my Bretagne.

The area is wonderful for walks and we have enjoyed the market or Halles in the past while just passing by the theater. It is worth the detour around here me think. Hope you enjoy it as we do

First, i have to repeat myself on Pontivy, a very nice town just 40 minutes from my house.

On  November 9, 1804 it received the name of Napoléonville from Napoléon I who else!  All is arranged to make this a model city with new architecture whereby the first stone was put on August 12 1807 in his presence. The town ask to be called Bourbonville after the first Restauration  1814-1815, and takes the name of Pontivy after the return of king Louis XVIII,later it comes back to be called  Napoléonville under Napoléon III. From  1870 the town regained the current name of Pontivy. Which of course in Breton is Pondi.

The covered market or Halles is open every Saturday, from 8h to 13h., the Halles market,at rue Lorois, managed by the city/town hall. Covered food market with many local producers.

Pontivy

This building, inaugurated in 1848, succeeded the old wooden halles demolished in 1842. The ground floor is intended for shops and the first floor for an auditorium and meeting rooms. In September 1935, the Rex cinema opened in the theater renovated and decorated by Pierre Cadre. The murals of around 70 m² represent a retrospective of Breton costumes from the Pontivy region, notably Guémené, Baud, Pluméliau, Saint-Thuriau, etc., with scenes borrowed from the region and typical of Brittany, such as harvests, pardons, fairs, weddings, country festivals. The opening for the theater is on rue de Lourmel

Some info not much on them are here

And there is the short of it. Like I said the area is wonderfully old great architecture all around in buildings to enjoy the walk and of course great food places. I have written plenty on Pontivy before, all is on my blog. Hope you enjoy it

And remember, happy travel, good health, and many cheers to all!!!
