The Halles Centrales market of Les Sables d’Olonne !!!

Once again, I am updating older post to showcase this wonderful market that should have a post of its own, me think. This one was a first time as usually bypassed it south but glad finally stop by, its a gem, and we will be back, eventually, The town of Les Sables-d’Olonne is located in the Vendée department no, 85 in the Pays-de-la-Loire region of my belle France , Therefore, here is my take on the Halles Centrales market of Les Sables d’Olonne !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Halles Centrales or central market halls, in the heart of the city, in the Baltard style, house a daily market and a local producers’ market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, Located on the site of the former small cemetery , the original market hall dates back to 1810. Built around fifteen years after the end of the Second Empire, under the Third Republic, the building was inaugurated in 1890. the market brings together, on two floors, around 65 traders and small producers. The Halles are inspired by Parisian models combining a frame of iron, brick and glass. They were renovated in 1990, on the occasion of their centenary. The building was renovated in 1990, on the occasion of their centenary, preserving its original architectural style. Today, it is a highly popular food market. It is open Tuesday through Sunday from 8h to 13h, and daily during July and August from 8h to 13h30. The upper floor is open on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, reserved for small-scale producers. It also opens on public holidays.

The market brings together around 65 vendors and small-scale producers across two floors. Butchers, charcutiers, bakers and pastry chefs, florists, cheesemongers, produce growers, fishmongers, and caterers, along with organic and regional goods are all available here year-round for stocking up on fresh products. A great perk: one hour of free parking. Often ranked among the most beautiful markets in France ; the Central Market Hall is a symbol of local heritage, boasting a history spanning 130 years.

While renovation work is underway on this iconic local landmark, the market has been relocated to Cours Louis Guédon, where a temporary building houses the Halles Éphémères or pop-up market. Temporary covered market by 2 Cr Dupont. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 8h to 13h ,including public holidays; open daily in July and August from 8h to 13h30. This covered food market brings together the regular market hall vendors offering fresh produce, cheeses, fish, meat, and fruit & vegetables.

There is, also, a fish market, on the fishing port; and the Arago covered market.
